The Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office (ACTTC) is recruiting for an Accountant/Auditor position at either the I or II level. If you are interested in being considered at the II level, you must submit a separate application to the recruitment for that level.
As a Property Tax Accountant/Auditor, you will perform a broad range of accounting and auditing functions to support the daily operations of the Property Tax Division. Responsibilities may include:
Performing complex property tax processes and ensuring compliance with regulations
Preparing and submitting required state reports accurately and timely
Managing school bond issuances, overseeing debt repayment schedules, and calculating tax rates
Developing revenue estimates to support financial planning and forecasting
Assisting with data collection and entry to support Board items and related documentation
Interpreting and applying various accounting and financial laws and regulations
Preparing a variety of accounting, budget, and financial reports
Coordinating the direction, revision, and/or development of accounting systems and procedures
Representing the office at board meetings and other meetings as needed, which may include delivering presentations
Training clerical and technical personnel, including the assignment and evaluation of their work
The ideal candidate will possess intellectual curiosity, an interest in research, and many of the following:
Ability to analyze, implement, and apply accounting standards, revenue and taxation codes, government code, and other regulations
Experience in governmental accounting and auditing, including preparing complex financial reports
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with taxpayers, taxing agencies, external departments, and the public
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment during critical revenue allocation periods
Passion for accounting, and continual learning and improvement
Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Word and Excel
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate is highly desirable, but not required

The ACTTC Office provides accounting, financial reporting, auditing, collection, financing, and investing services to County departments, agencies, districts, and the public. Its mission is to provide reliable and relevant financial services to the citizens of Sonoma County while promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Office is comprised of nine divisions and is overseen by an executive management team. ACTTC is staffed by 108 full-time employees with an annual budget of approximately $167 million.

Minimum Qualifications Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, either a four-year degree in accounting, finance, economics, management, or business administration (or CPA) with one year of professional audit/accounting experience (comparable to Accountant I or II or Accountant/Auditor Trainee), or six years of governmental auditing/accounting experience with one year of professional experience and 12 semester units or 16 quarter units of accounting coursework.
License:
Valid driver's license at the appropriate level may be required depending on assignment. The position does not require a California driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working Knowledge:
General and governmental accounting principles, generally accepted auditing standards (including governmental auditing), laws and regulations governing County fiscal operations, personnel and public administration, and automated accounting systems.
Ability:
Apply accounting principles, utilize auditing standards, establish cooperative relationships, problem-solve, plan and perform auditing tasks, direct clerical/technical staff, prepare clear reports, communicate effectively, adapt to changing regulations, explain County processes, and perform calculations accurately.
