Summary As an entry-level position, the Indirect Tax Associate supports the Company’s tax compliance and reporting functions. Their focus is property tax and sales/use tax return preparation, as well as assisting with process improvements, research, and cross-functional support. The Indirect Tax Analyst gains exposure to the Company’s dynamic business environment and develops foundational tax skills.
Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
Prepare and file sales/use tax returns and ensure timely and accurate tax payments across multiple jurisdictions.
Prepare personal property tax returns, review valuation notices, and process property tax payments.
Assist with railcar personal property tax compliance, including return preparation, notice review, and bill processing.
Conduct research on property tax and sales/use tax issues, interpreting regulations and providing recommendations.
Maintain and update sales/use tax exemption certificates, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
Support operations and accounting teams by providing tax guidance and resolving inquiries.
Assist in improving tax processes and controls, identifying opportunities for efficiency and automation.
Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries related to tax accruals and payments.
Participate in special projects, including audits, system enhancements, and process documentation.
Collaborate with external consultants and taxing authorities as needed to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
Perform other tasks as required to support the Company’s overall tax function.
Qualifications The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior internship or exposure to tax or accounting functions is a plus but not required.
