Position information and responsibilities related to NC State University’s Elevate program within the IPSE and College of Education. Elevate is NC State's inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The program focuses on five pillars of success: academics, employment, personal development, independent living and social engagement. Primary purpose of this position

The Independent Living Coach serves as a role model and guide to developing independent living skills for NC State students in the Elevate program. Responsibilities include one-on-one and communal dialogues, development and facilitation of independent living skill development workshops, and collaboration with Elevate staff to monitor students’ needs, goals, and skill development. Hours may include days, evenings and weekends as needed, coordinated with fellow Independent Living Coaches and Property Management Staff. Off-campus Coaches may collaborate with on-campus services (Facilities Management, Dining, Transportation, Student Health, Campus Safety) to support a positive experience for Elevate students on campus. Note:

This position is open only to currently enrolled NC State students who are in good academic standing. The selected Residential Mentor is required to reside in off-campus housing from August 10, 2026 through May 15, 2027 and must commit to living in the same off-campus community as Elevate-supported housing, such as Valentine Commons or Signature 1505. Anticipated hiring range includes a $4,000 stipend per academic year and a scholarship up to $16,500 to support living expenses associated with the position. Note: This position is open only to currently enrolled NC State students who are in good academic standing and must reside in off-campus housing for the duration of the appointment. The selected Residential Mentor is required to reside in off-campus housing from August 10, 2026 through May 15, 2027. As a condition of the role, the Residential Mentor must commit to living (including signing a lease) in the same off-campus community as Elevate-supported housing, such as Valentine Commons or Signature 1505, to meet program and role requirements. Responsibilities

Community Living & Support (60%) Foster the development of individualized daily, weekly, and monthly routines for Elevate students living in University Housing Work with Elevate students and Elevate staff to establish independent living goals each semester and monitor progress Provide peer-level support through active listening and presence in the residence halls Assist with time management and wellness practices Support development of conflict resolution skills in partnership with University Housing Maintain shared spaces collaboratively and encourage independence Help students understand and adhere to safety and emergency protocols and procedures as directed by University Housing Communicate concerns, including Facilities issues or crisis response needs to University Housing staff Mentorship & Engagement (20%)

Lead check-ins to establish community; assist students in navigating residential spaces and social opportunities; encourage independent living skills through workshops and educational materials; develop positive interpersonal relationships with Elevate students. Administrative & Team Responsibilities (20%)

Participate in team meetings and training; complete administrative responsibilities to sustain accurate reporting and records; follow protocols to assist students with housing and independent living resources; support planning and implementing events with campus and community partners; perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager for Elevate Program. Compliance Expectations

Participate in required training related to FERPA, the Clery Act, and Title IX; comply with privacy protocols under FERPA; complete reporting responsibilities under Title IX including any crimes or incidents of sex discrimination; complete all reporting as required. Complete all reporting responsibilities identified by Title IX and related compliance requirements. Minimum Experience/Education

Commitment to student-centered work Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills Proficiency with email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual platforms (Zoom/Microsoft Teams) Ability to respond to urgent or emergent situations with professionalism and care Experience serving as a peer mentor Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of employment and maintained throughout employment Enrolled in at least 12 (undergrad) or 9 (grad) credit hours each semester Ability to be endorsed for employment by NC State’s Human Resources after a criminal background check Complete an NC State housing application, including acceptance of the housing agreement University Disciplinary Charges or Sanctions: not eligible if under certain academic or conduct sanctions Department Required Skills

Compliance-related training (FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX) and privacy protocols Must be available to work August 12, 2025 – May 15, 2026 Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Experience with disability communities Proficiency with documentation and digital communication tools (GroupMe, When2Work, or Equip templated reporting systems) Workshop/instruction development and facilitation Required License or Certification
