Overview
Position information and employment details for the Residential Mentor role within NC State’s Elevate program. This is a temporary, on-campus housing position open to currently enrolled NC State students in good academic standing. The selected mentor will live on-site in University Housing for the duration of the appointment. Responsibilities
Community Living & Support (60%): Foster individualized routines, support independent living goals, provide peer-level support, assist with time management and wellness practices, help develop conflict resolution skills, maintain shared spaces, and communicate safety and facilities-related concerns to University Housing staff. Mentorship & Engagement (20%): Lead regular check-ins to build community, assist students in navigating residential spaces and social opportunities, support development of independent living skills through workshops and materials, and cultivate positive relationships with Elevate students. Administrative & Team Responsibilities (20%): Participate in team meetings and trainings, complete administrative tasks to sustain accurate reporting, follow housing and independent living resource protocols, support planning and events with campus and community partners, and perform other duties as assigned by the Elevate Project Manager. Compliance & Reporting: Participate in required training for FERPA, Clery Act, and Title IX; comply with privacy protocols; complete reporting responsibilities related to Title IX; adhere to housing/community standards. Primary Purpose of Residential Mentor position:
Create supportive living-learning environments for Elevate program students, living with Elevate staff and coordinating with University Housing to promote independence and academic success. duties performed on-site and in person in Raleigh, North Carolina. Work Schedule:
20 hours per week; must live in residence. Qualifications
Commitment to student-centered work; strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills. Proficiency with email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams). Ability to respond professionally in urgent or emergent situations. Experience serving as a peer mentor. Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of employment and throughout employment. Enrolled in at least 12 (undergraduate) or 9 (graduate) credit hours each semester. Ability to be endorsed for employment after a criminal background check; complete NC State housing application and housing agreement.
