Job Summary
The Banking Analytics Specialist
is responsible for extracting, analyzing, and interpreting data from the Bank’s core systems and databases to support informed business decision-making, regulatory compliance, and strategic initiatives. This role designs and executes queries, generates reports and provides actionable insights to management and other departments. The Banking Analytics Specialist works closely with IT, Operations, Compliance, and other departments to ensure data integrity and optimize information flow across the organization. Primary Responsibilities
Data Extraction & Analysis
Developing and maintaining queries and scripts to extract data from core banking systems and related databases. Analyzing large and complex datasets to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities for process improvement. Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all data analyses produced.
Reporting & Insights
Preparing, validating, and presenting reports and dashboards for management, including but not limited to deposit trends, customer segmentation, and product performance. Delivering insights that are clear, relevant, and useful to executive leadership and business stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborating with IT and business units to define data requirements and reporting needs. Working with internal partners to resolve data issues and discrepancies. Communicating data definitions, assumptions, and outputs clearly to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
Supporting regulatory reporting and compliance initiatives by providing timely and accurate data extracts and analyses. Adhering to data privacy requirements and internal data governance standards.
Data Governance & Documentation
Documenting data extraction processes, logic, and assumptions. Maintaining up to date and auditable documentation related to data sources and reporting.
Continuous Improvement
Assisting in the development of new data driven products, pricing strategies, and promotional initiatives. Staying current on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory expectations related to data and analytics. Continuously improving the quality and efficiency of data processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments. Ability to interpret data from multiple sources and reconcile inconsistences. Comfortable working with large volumes of data within defined deadlines. High degree of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information. Working knowledge of banking regulations and data privacy requirements, or the ability to quickly learn them. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or related field required. Must have proficiency in SQL and experience working within relational databases (e.g., Jack Henry, FIS, Fiserv, or comparable systems). Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or COGNOS preferred. Experience with deposit accounting software or core banking systems preferred. Knowledge of bank products and services, with an emphasis on deposit and savings accounts preferred.
