Position Summary The Operations & Marketing Manager is a core leadership role responsible for the
execution and promotion
of Boise Running’s race portfolio (approximately
10 events per year ). This role owns event operations while also owning the
execution of marketing efforts
that drive participation, engagement, and a strong race-day experience.
This is a highly autonomous role reporting directly to the Boise Running owners. After an initial ramp-up period, direction will primarily occur through brief, recurring check-ins. This role is trusted to make day-to-day decisions independently and bring recommendations to leadership as needed.
Role Shape & Emphasis This role requires strength in
both operations and marketing . Depending on candidate experience, the role may lean slightly more toward one area, but all candidates must be capable of contributing meaningfully in both.
Event Operations:

This role is focused on
execution and delivery , not long-term brand strategy or advanced performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities Event Operations
Own race operations from planning through execution, including permitting, insurance, logistics, and vendor coordination.
Manage relationships with local jurisdictions to secure event approvals and ensure compliance.
Develop and maintain course maps, vendor layouts, aid station plans, and equipment delivery schedules.
Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to ensure smooth event execution and a positive volunteer experience.
Maintain and organize event equipment and inventory housed at the organization’s storage facility.
Provide on-site leadership at all Boise Running events, ensuring a safe, well-run, and welcoming experience for participants, volunteers, and partners.
Marketing & Communications
Own the execution of marketing campaigns for all Boise Running events, including race launches, registration deadlines, price increases, and event reminders.
Manage and execute email marketing, social media content, and basic CRM workflows.
Execute and manage paid digital advertising efforts, primarily through Meta/Facebook and Google Ads.
Create or coordinate graphic assets for digital marketing using Canva and/or Adobe tools.
Manage and respond to customer service inquiries via email and social media with professionalism, warmth, and community-focused care.
Sponsor & Partner Engagement
Support sponsor outreach and ongoing relationship management.
Coordinate and execute sponsor activations that deliver meaningful, measurable value.
Ensure sponsor commitments are fulfilled across marketing and event execution.
Qualifications
Proven ability to operate independently and take ownership without micromanagement.
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Comfort making decisions and solving problems in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
Professional, positive demeanor when interacting with participants, volunteers, sponsors, and partners.
Ability to work evenings and weekends during event season.
Passion for community building, events, and outdoor recreation.
Ability to use project management tools for execution and follow up (ex: Notion, GSuite).
Experience in event planning, marketing, or community-based organizations is strongly preferred.
Required Marketing Skillset
Proficiency in
Canva ; experience with
Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop
is a plus.
Literacy in Squarespace editing.
Experience using
Meta Business Suite .
Comfort executing email and social media campaigns end-to-end.
Ability to clearly communicate ideas through visual and written content.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range:
$50,000–$60,000 , dependent on experience and ability to independently own event operations and marketing execution.
Flexible work structure
outside of race weeks, with heavier hours around event execution.
Complimentary or discounted race entries and select Boise Running gear.
