Staff Mechanical Designer (Contract) – GA or NC
We are seeking a
Staff Mechanical Designer
to support a diverse portfolio of mechanical design projects. This role involves detailed design execution, coordination with engineers and project teams, and production of high-quality mechanical deliverables in both 2D and 3D environments. Responsibilities
Perform various phases of mechanical design including planning, site evaluations, analytical design, report preparation, specifications, and construction documentation Develop mechanical plans, PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, sections, and detailed drawings from verbal or written input from design engineers Execute mechanical design assignments using standard methods and techniques, including drawing sequencing, system component sizing, and refinement of sketches Apply company, client, and project design and drafting standards consistently Analyze reports, drawings, and test data to support project planning and design efforts Interpret and incorporate applicable design codes and specifications Perform design revisions, redlines, and markups on active projects Conduct quality reviews of design drawings to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, and budget Perform basic calculations for layouts, equipment, wiring diagrams, and schematics Organize and maintain project drawings, plot files, and design documentation in a structured manner Coordinate effectively with project managers, engineers, designers, and clients Manage multiple assignments while meeting budgeted hours and project deadlines Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
in Drafting Technology or related field
with 7+ years of experience ,
OR Associate Degree
with
8+ years of related experience ,
OR High School Diploma
with
9+ years of progressive mechanical detailing and design experience Advanced proficiency in
AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and Excel Familiarity with
MicroStation
and
CadWorx
is a plus Strong experience using both
2D and 3D design tools Working knowledge of
geolocated models, plant coordinate systems, and spatial baselines Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, calculations, and design systems Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new design software Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Comfortable working in
