This position is a full-time, in-office position.
The Sr. Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor functions as site supervisor of the Casselberry and Sanford locations. This highly responsible position reports directly to the Public Health Nutrition Program Manager and requires a high degree of independent judgment, exceptional customer service skills, trustworthiness and the ability to multitask and remain calm under stress. This position requires independent judgement based on information found in the DHM 150-24 Policy and Procedure Manual for Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
Responsibilities
Supervises all Casselberry and Sanford nutrition staff; plans and monitors workloads; motivates staff to maximize time and resources.
Conducts annual and mid-term performance evaluations; writes and communicates performance standards; validates and approves timesheets and EARs; approves leave requests; maintains up-to-date Position Descriptions for direct reports.
Participates in recruitment, selection, hiring and training of new employees; handles disciplinary action as appropriate.
Reviews work assignments to ensure timely and appropriate services to clients per WIC guidelines; conducts yearly VENA observations and monthly QA audits.
Serves as backup liaison for Casselberry and Sanford WIC sites and coordinates training; maintains professional communication with DOH-Seminole Administrators, Managers, Supervisors and State Office WIC staff.
Serves as consultant on nutrition and dietetics for Health Department staff and participates in inter-disciplinary committees to advance the agency’s mission.
Coordinates with the assigned person in WIC regarding building issues; ensures building operations are opened/closed on time and facility issues are handled expeditiously.
Handles customer service concerns for Casselberry and Sanford clients promptly.
Oversees Direct Distribution Formula process between nutritionist and providers; ensures order forms are accurate and emailed to ordering staff; completes daily/regular reporting and QA tasks.
Certifies eligible clients into the WIC Program; provides nutrition counseling and referrals; evaluates clinical and anthropometric data and nutrition histories for WIC participants; documents counseling and writes notes/care plans; issues EBT benefits when appropriate.
Promotes breastfeeding to WIC staff and clients; acts as liaison between nutrition, clerical and breastfeeding staff.
Coordinates and supervises nutrition module training of new WIC staff; assists in planning and revising the WIC nutrition education plan and related documents.
Chooses and evaluates educational materials; develops curricula; ensures staff participation in outreach; may present on nutrition topics.
Updates action plans and notifies program management as required.
Accurately completes and submits daily activities and travel documentation; attends meetings and trainings; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be licensed dietitian/nutritionist in the state of Florida.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics or food and nutrition related subject.
Florida Department of Health requires emergency work hours and may require working in special needs shelters or other duties during emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of nutrition science, nutritional treatment techniques, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics, research methods, and related nutrition sciences; understanding of preventative health care concepts.
Knowledge of supervisory practices; interviewing and counseling; effective communication; Windows and Microsoft Office proficiency.
Ability to coordinate and participate in nutrition care plans, perform nutritional assessments, determine problems, and monitor care quality.
Ability to work independently and with others; supervise people; establish priorities; manage program activities; understand and apply applicable rules and procedures; effective verbal and written communication; ability to maintain records and reports; aptitude to type proficiently.
