Location: Communications Division POSITION SUMMARY
The Hourly Communications Officer (Photojournalist) will play a vital role in visually communicating the stories, achievements, and culture of Atlanta Public Schools. Through compelling, high-quality photography, this position supports efforts to build and protect the reputation, image, and voice of the district.
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field or a combination of experience and education Additional years of equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
N/A WORK EXPERIENCE:
3 years of experience in editorial, documentary, or journalistic photography Familiarity with managing and organizing digital asset libraries Demonstrated ability to photograph a wide range of subjects, including events, portraits, candid moments, and environments Experience in K 12 education or public sector preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong portfolio showcasing an ability to tell stories through images. Proficiency in photo editing software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite Written and oral communication Ability to work independently, as well as work with a team Attention to detail ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Photograph key district events, including but not limited to ceremonies, performances, athletic events, school board meetings, and student showcases Produce editorial-style imagery that aligns with district communications goals and branding standards Capture professional headshots and staff portraits as needed Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of high-quality stock images representing all schools, departments, and educational programs Collaborate with the communications team to support campaigns, publications, websites, and social media efforts Perform post-production editing using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop) Maintain proper organization, cataloging, and archiving of photo assets Utilize drone photography and videography when applicable Manage multiple projects and deadlines, with flexibility during peak times in the school calendar Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as needed Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator or their representative
