CommunicationsPay Grade: QTarget Salary Range: $97,700 to $122,200The Director of Public & Media Relations is responsible for leading Atlanta Housing’s earned media and public relations strategy to strengthen the agency’s reputation, visibility, and stakeholder confidence. This role is a senior counselor and operator who can build a proactive media relations program, manage reactive issues with discipline and speed, and deliver superb content that communicates Atlanta Housing’s mission, impact, and priorities with clarity and credibility.This position is ideal for a big-picture, entrepreneurial PR leader who can lead a high-performing Public & Media Relations function within the Office of Communications, one that consistently generates meaningful coverage, cultivates influential relationships, and executes public-facing moments (press events, announcements, and convenings) at a high standard. The Director will serve as a key partner to the SVP and is expected to operate with strong judgment, calm urgency, and a high bar for quality.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*** Own Atlanta Housing’s public relations strategy by establishing narrative priorities, key messages, annual/quarterly PR planning, proactive earned media roadmap, and counsel aligned to organizational goals* Develop and execute a proactive earned media strategy that advances Atlanta Housing’s priorities and generates consistent, high-quality coverage (local, regional, and national as appropriate)* Identify story opportunities, build pitch angles, and lead outreach that elevates Atlanta Housing’s work beyond announcements and one-off events* Establish and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to facilitate accurate and positive coverage* Serve as a spokesperson and senior media liaison; prepare and support executive spokespeople for interviews and public moments* Lead development of media prep materials, including talking points, Q&A, and backgrounders* Ensure executive-facing communications are strong, audience-appropriate, and aligned to organizational priorities (in partnership with the SVP)* Lead strategy and execution for press events and convenings hosted by Atlanta Housing (groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, closings, tours, announcements), ensuring both logistics readiness and communications readiness* Approve event messaging, run-of-show, media materials, and staffing approach for every press/public-facing event prior to SVP sign-off.* Partner with Marketing & Branding for event promotion and creative collateral (ticketing sites, design assets, promotional messaging)* Set and maintain a high-quality bar for all public-facing materials, including press releases, statements, advisories, media kits, and web-ready copy* Supervise the development, accuracy, and alignment of media materials to ensure message discipline and consistent voice* Lead response to media inquiries and emerging issues in coordination with the SVP and relevant internal partners.* Monitor media coverage and public sentiment; flag risks and recommend response strategies* Supervise and develop direct reports (as applicable) through coaching, clear expectations, and performance feedback* Coordinate across internal departments to surface timely storylines, validate facts, and ensure communications deliverables are accurate and on schedule* Perform other communications-related duties as assigned**Education and Experience:*** Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master’s preferred* 8+ years of experience in public relations, with a proven track record of proactive earned media results* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills* Strong writing and editing skills with demonstrated ability to produce high-quality* press materials and executive prep content under deadline* Demonstrated experience managing press events and public-facing convenings* (planning through execution)* Strong leadership abilities with experience managing a team* Strong judgment and ability to perform under pressure; experience with issuesmanagement and crisis communications* Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday) and* Microsoft Office Suite* Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with keen attention to detail ·* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment ·* Ability to interpret and organize data ·* Strong stakeholder management skills; collaborative, solutions-oriented approach ·* Familiar with websites, marketing and design software products such as MailChimp, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator) is a plus* Agency experience highly valued**Working Conditions:**Works in an office environment.

Frequent local travel is required to implement the agency’s corporate strategies in the community.

Occasional out-of-town travel to represent the agency or participate in national housing conferences and training.
