Job Description Applicant Information Entry-Level Testing. Location: 400 W. King Avenue, Kingsville, Texas 78363. Application deadline: Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Thank you for your interest in the Kingsville Police Department. The City of Kingsville Police Department is a civil service department consisting of 50 officers. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), the Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143, and have no disqualifying events under the listed “Reasons for Disqualification.”

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

Respond to calls and other requests from the public for emergency assistance.

Patrol assigned areas for traffic and other violations.

Complete an online application and enclose copies of requested documents to the Human Resources Office.

Keep HR informed of changes in contact information and employment status; failure to do so may result in disqualification.

Application & Selection Process

The process consists of six phases; each phase must be completed to progress to the next. Applicants may be disqualified at any phase.

Phase 1 – Written examination. Not applicable for alternate hire applicants.

Phase 2 – Background investigation; complete and submit a Personal History Statement; a thorough background investigation is conducted by the Police Department.

Phase 3 – Physical agility test; required when scheduled; those who pass advance to Phase 4.

Phase 4 – Interviews (when a vacancy exists); applicants who pass Phase 3 go before an interview board of four to six members.

Phase 5 – Pre-employment physical examination conducted when a vacancy occurs.

Phase 6 – Final processing and hiring decisions as vacancies exist.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Age:

Entry level must be at least 18 to test for an entry-level police officer position. Eligible for certification as a peace officer (TCOLE) by completion of the police academy. Age requirements subject to Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143.

Education:

High school diploma or GED with 12 hours at an institution of higher education with at least a 2.0 GPA, or an honorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces after at least 24 months of active duty.

License:

Valid Driver’s License prior to submitting the application.

Military Points:

Veterans with an honorable discharge may receive up to 5 points added to a passing score of 70% or better on the entry-level exam; a DD-214 must be provided. General discharge under honorable conditions does not qualify for points.
