Construction Estimator – Job Description
Salary Range:
$70k-$120k
Overview Responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates across all design stages, coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, and supporting competitive bid development including federal contracting. The Estimator contributes to risk evaluation, scope validation, and pricing strategy while ensuring all work aligns with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop estimates from conceptual through final design
Maintain cost models, templates, and historical pricing databases for continuous improvement
Solicit, evaluate, level, and track subcontractor and vendor proposals across multiple trades
Manage RFIs, scope clarifications, and documentation for assigned trades
Interpret RFP/RFQ documents, respond to government solicitation requirements, and ensure FAR/DFARS compliance
Lead scope review meetings with internal stakeholders to identify gaps and risks
Provide value engineering options and develop alternates to enhance pricing competitiveness
Support bid strategy development including contingency assessment and risk mitigation planning
Assist with preconstruction schedules, phasing plans, and logistical planning for proposals
Prepare written narratives, clarifications, and supporting documentation for bid packages
Work with project management during project turnover to ensure smooth transition and scope understanding
Qualifications
Minimum four years' construction experience or equivalent technical training
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and common estimating platforms
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
Federal project experience preferred with ability to obtain security clearance
Working Conditions
Primarily sedentary role with occasional walking or standing
Light lifting up to 10 lbs as needed
Occasional travel for site visits, meetings, or pre-bid walkthroughs
