Overview Requisition No: 869662. Agency: Financial Services. Working Title: FINANCIAL CRIME INVESTIGATOR I - 43061939. Pay Plan: Career Service. Position Number: 43061939. Salary: $41,000.00 (Plus $1,248.00 CAD). Posting Closing Date: 02/27/2026. This is a NON-SWORN position within the Bureau of Public Assistance Fraud, part of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Responsibilities

Conduct investigations related to public assistance fraud under the supervision of an Investigations Manager.

Administer oaths and affirmations and serve subpoenas in accordance with Florida Statutes.

Review case files, identify documentary evidence, prepare investigative plans, and gather information to investigate allegations.

Utilize public and private data systems as part of the investigative process; interview targets and community contacts; obtain statements; document investigative efforts in automated systems.

Apply Florida Statutes and public assistance policy; prepare affidavits with supporting evidence and witness testimony.

Collaborate with the Investigation Manager to determine outcomes; cases may be referred to the State Attorney or an administrative hearing process; investigations may be terminated if evidence is lacking.

Provide testimony in court, depositions, and hearings as required.

Training & Duties

This is an entry-level position in training status to acquire knowledge of investigative techniques, public assistance program policy, and departmental procedures.

Complete required training programs; work with experienced investigators to develop skills.

Follows all Department of Financial Services administrative policies; documents investigative hours and expenses; uses automated information systems to track cases.

Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

A minimum of four (4) years of professional work experience in one or more: criminal justice, law enforcement, conducting research/interviews, data analysis, investigations, financial auditing, or public assistance programs. A post-secondary degree may be used as an alternative on a year-for-year basis.

“Professional work experience” generally includes roles with administrative, supervisory, analytical, or operational responsibilities in structured or corporate settings. Entry-level roles in service or retail do not typically qualify.

VALID Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by time of employment.

Preferences

Special consideration for bilingual verbal and written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission.

Selection Process & Eligibility Selection is a three-to-six-month process. Applicants must pass the Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exams, and CJSTC background clearance prior to beginning. The annual salary is $41,000.00 with a CAD of $1,248.00 applicable in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties. Employees are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
