Experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist – Texas (Virtual Services)

Contract Position | 10 Hours Per Week | Immediate Start

We are seeking an experienced, licensed Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to provide virtual services for students in Texas. This is a part‑time, fully remote contract role offering 5–10 hours per week, ideal for an O&M professional who is looking to add flexible hours to their current caseload or is interested in virtual school‑based work.

Candidates must be licensed to provide O&M services in the state of Texas and comfortable working with a diverse elementary and secondary caseload through a telepractice model.

Position Details

Location: Texas (services delivered virtually)

Hours: 5–10 hours per week

Schedule: Flexible within school hours

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Duration: Remainder of the school year, with potential for renewal

Employment Type: Contractor

Fingerprinting and background checks required prior to start

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or a closely related field

Active Texas O&M licensure (required)

ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred

Experience providing services to students with visual impairments in school settings

Previous experience with virtual O&M instruction is highly preferred

Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills

Comfortable conducting assessments and delivering services remotely

Caseload Description You will support a small, manageable caseload of students who require O&M services as part of their IEP or 504 accommodations. Caseload may include:

Elementary students learning foundational mobility and environmental awareness skills

Middle and high school students needing advanced orientation techniques

Students requiring skill development in indoor navigation, community travel concepts, and safety awareness

Students who utilize canes, low‑vision devices, or additional assistive technology

Caseload size will remain intentionally limited given the part‑time virtual nature of the position.

Disabilities Served Students may present with one or more of the following:

Visual impairments, including low vision and blindness

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)

Multiple disabilities impacting mobility and spatial orientation

Additional disabilities such as autism, intellectual disabilities, or physical impairments

Students transitioning between school environments, new routines, or adaptive equipment

Your role will involve adapting instruction to meet each student’s unique needs through remote delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Support

Provide direct virtual Orientation and Mobility services in alignment with student IEP goals

Teach environmental awareness, safe travel techniques, cane skills, and route planning adjusted for virtual instruction

Support students' independence, navigation skills, spatial concepts, and safety routines

Collaborate with TVIs, special education teams, and families to reinforce O&M skills in daily settings

Provide training and consultation to staff or family members as needed to support implementation of strategies

Assessment & Documentation

Conduct virtual O&M assessments and re‑evaluations

Develop and write IEP goals, progress notes, and required service documentation

Track and report student progress using district‑approved platforms

Maintain compliance with Texas state education requirements and district policies

Collaboration

Participate in virtual IEP meetings, team consultations, and interdisciplinary discussions

Communicate regularly with teachers, related service providers, and parents

Provide recommendations for environmental modifications, equipment, or assistive technology
