The work you'll do is more than just a job. At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.
The Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Program (SCRP) is a new state-run retirement savings program launched in January 2026 aimed at helping employees save for their future through individual retirement accounts (IRAs). Legislation mandates that employers with 5 or more employees must register or certify they offer another qualified plan to their staff. The program is designed to close the retirement savings gap for Minnesotans working for small employers that traditionally may not have offered retirement savings plans. The program is administered and enforced by the Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Board.
Join a small, dedicated team at the ground level as we launch and grow a program that will transform retirement savings options for Minnesotans across the State. As a program communications specialist you will be part of a creative and collaborative communications team dedicated to program outreach. You will contribute to:
Developing, maintaining, and distributing marketing materials;
Maintaining the program website;
Leading and engaging in social media activities;
Meeting with private sector employers and staff to educate them on the program and its features.
Telework This position is eligible for up to a 50% hybrid telework arrangement. With a telework agreement, onsite attendance will be required for team meetings or as requested by management to meet business needs. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. Please review the Telework Policy for details.
Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of experience in communications or marketing, which may include social media management, digital marketing, public relations, and/or website content management. A bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Applicants who meet the above will be further assessed on the following:
Skill in managing digital and website content, including knowledge of accessibility standards and familiarity with tools and technologies such as HTML, GovDelivery, Tridion, Google Analytics, or similar systems.
Skill in using graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite tools such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Writing, editing, and presentation skills to communicate program information clearly and in an accessible manner for diverse audiences.
Professionalism and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively effectively with colleagues and engage with external stakeholders.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and complete projects as directed.
Ability to develop and implement social media content and campaigns, with awareness of current trends across platforms.

Experience developing social media campaigns.
Experience creating web, online, and print content that meets or exceeds ADA accessibility standards.
Experience using site-improve or similar website accessibility and analytics tools.
Knowledge or experience in the retirement or financial services industry, including familiarity with industry standards and best practices.
Knowledge of state policies, procedures, and practices related to information sharing and data privacy.
Additional Requirements Successful applicants must pass employment reference checks and a criminal background and credit check through American Databank prior to employment. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify an applicant, each case will be reviewed individually in alignment with fair hiring practices.
