The Role We’re hiring a Summer Camp Director to fully own our 8-week summer camp program. This role is the single point of accountability for all camp planning, staffing, execution, and parent communication.
You own camps end-to-end.
If something goes right or wrong with camps, it’s yours.
Key Responsibilities Program Ownership
Own daily camp operations across all weeks and age groups
Ensure camps run safely, smoothly, and on schedule
Uphold Sportyard’s standards for energy, structure, and kid experience
Staff Leadership
Hire, train, and manage camp counselors to assist you
Create daily staff schedules and assignments
Set expectations, give feedback, and handle performance issues
Be visible and present on the floor every day
Parent Communication
Serve as the primary point of contact for camp parents
Handle questions, concerns, schedule changes, and issues calmly and professionally
Proactively communicate when adjustments or updates are needed
Safety & Experience
Enforce all safety protocols, rules, and behavioral standards
Manage minor incidents and elevate serious issues appropriately
Ensure kids are engaged, included, and having a positive experience
Planning & Prep
Lead pre-camp planning and staff training
Coordinate camp themes, daily schedules, and activities
Help refine camp structure and improvements for future summers

What We’re Looking For Required
3+ years experience leading youth camps, programs, or large groups of kids
Prior experience supervising staff
Calm, confident, and authoritative presence with kids and adults
Strong communication skills with parents
High energy and comfort in a fast-moving environment
Strongly Preferred
YMCA, rec department, school, or private camp leadership background
CPR / First Aid certified (or willing to certify)
Experience managing safety and behavior at scale
This Role Is NOT For You If:

You’ve only ever been a counselor, not a leader
