Job Overview We are seeking an experienced

Assistant Distribution Designer

to support electric utility distribution projects for FirstEnergy. This role focuses on the design and development of construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, hands‑on distribution design experience, and the ability to collaborate across project teams to deliver accurate, code‑compliant designs.

This is a

fully onsite position

and is not open to entry-level candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and material lists for overhead and underground electric distribution projects

Perform engineering calculations including pole loading and structural analysis, conductor sizing, voltage drop, and transformer sizing

Ensure designs comply with client standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements such as the

National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to meet scope, schedule, and quality objectives

Prepare and submit permit applications to local and regulatory agencies

Process and analyze data gathered from site visits to verify field conditions and support design accuracy

Provide technical support during construction, resolving design-related issues as needed

Manage multiple projects concurrently from assignment through completion

Required Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree

in engineering technology, drafting, or a related field

Note: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline is not permitted for this role

Minimum of 3 years of experience

in electric utility

distribution design

Entry‑level or drafting‑only candidates will not be considered

Proficiency with

CAD software , GIS tools, and other utility design platforms

Strong working knowledge of electric distribution systems and construction practices

Familiarity with

NESC

and applicable utility standards

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced project environment
