Senior Director of Workers' Compensation Claims

to lead our Workers' Compensation claims ecosystem, focusing on best-in-class outcomes, exceptional customer experience, and developing top talent across multiple teams. In this influential leadership role, you'll partner closely with the

Chief Claims Officer

and other cross-functional leaders to shape and execute the Workers' Compensation claims strategy. Your Leadership Role As a key leader, you will provide vision, direction, and operational rigor to Workers' Compensation claims teams, overseeing multiple functions, including Early Intervention Unit (EIU), Complex Claims Unit (CCU), Stable Claims, Case Management/Utilization Review, Medical Only, Repricing, Risk Mitigation, Claims Legal/Vendor Management, and TPA Oversight - ensuring consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across all locations. Your Key Responsibilities Develop long-term strategies and annual operating plans; set and monitor KPIs (severity, leakage, duration, return to work, litigation rates) while driving portfolio-level performance enhancements. Champion robust investigations, sound reserving practices, proactive disability management focusing on return-to-work initiatives, fraud detection, and timely case closures in alignment with GUARD's Workers' Compensation Claims Policy & Procedure framework. Build leadership capability and depth; partner with Learning & Development and Quality Assurance to standardize training and coaching; cultivate a culture of accountability, service, and growth. Ensure compliance across jurisdictions (NCCI, state rules); proactively anticipate regulatory updates and integrate them into our policies, processes, and training. Optimize outcomes by enhancing partnerships with panel counsel and vendor performance; bolster TPA oversight and adherence to service level agreements. Collaborate with Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal, Data & Analytics, and Finance teams to inform pricing, trend analysis, and loss cost management, while sharing insights on market dynamics affecting Workers' Compensation. Qualifications What You Bring to the Table 10-15+ years of progressive leadership experience in Workers' Compensation claims, managing multi-state programs and large teams; comprehensive knowledge of Workers' Compensation technical, legal, and regulatory frameworks. A strong track record of enhancing severity, duration, litigation, indemnity, and medical outcomes through effective operational models, analytics, and talent development. Proven expertise in cultivating leadership capabilities, standardizing file quality, and scaling training initiatives across multiple sites. Strong executive presence; adept at collaborating with the Chief Claims Officer and cross-functional executives. Relevant credentials (e.g., AIC, CPCU, state adjuster licenses) are highly preferred.
