
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced
Director of Labor Relations / Senior Attorney
to lead our labor relations function and conduct internal human resources/compliance investigations. This role, reporting to APTIM's Chief Compliance Officer, serves as a legal advisor to APTIM and investigates compliance and HR-related matters, ensuring fair, defensible outcomes with appropriate recommendations as needed.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Provide legal counsel to the company on labor relations matters, including union strategy, collective bargaining, multi-employer pension plans ("MEPP"), grievance handling, arbitration preparation, and contract interpretation.
Manage and advise company leadership about collective bargaining issues, including, for example, negotiations, interpretation, reductions-in-force planning, seniority, benefits, grievances and arbitrations.
Continue a positive, productive working relationship with union leaders that recognizes the functions of unions while protecting management rights.
Advise company leadership on risk related to employee relations, discipline, terminations, and workplace disputes.
Work on issues involving potential strikes or other job actions, including providing practical and legal advice with respect to these issues, particularly in the context of multi-employer sites.
Advise company leadership with respect to labor issues involving proposals for new work.
Advise company on risk related to union pension and fringe benefit issues, including MEPPs.
Work in a double-breasted company environment, maintaining legal and appropriate structure and policies to comply with requirements.
Research, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local labor and employment laws.
Investigate internal compliance matters, including, for example, allegations of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Train and mentor internal Human Resources investigators on investigation protocols and best practices.
Conduct privileged, confidential investigations; document findings; and recommend corrective action.
Develop and review employment policies, work rules, and investigation protocols.
Basic Qualifications:
Preferred: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with active license to practice law in any U.S. state (in good standing). Non-attorney candidates with strong, proven labor relations experience may be considered.
Preferred: Familiarity with large-scale industrial construction / maintenance along with environmental remediation civil projects. Basic construction knowledge and experience with OSHA regulations is a plus.
Minimum five years of experience practicing employment or labor law or serving in a senior labor relations role.
Experience in unionized environments, including contract negotiations, grievance adjudication, and labor-management matters.
Demonstrated experience leading investigations into employee concerns or compliance investigations.
Excellent legal writing, analysis, people, and advisory skills

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $150K to $200K per year. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
