Primary Purpose Of Position The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a full‑time, entry‑level, live‑in professional educator‑scholar who fosters transformative residential experiences that accelerate student learning, wellbeing, and success. RHDs oversee the daily operations of a residence hall community, supervise student staff, and cultivate inclusive environments that promote engagement, leadership, and holistic development. This essential position participates in a campus‑wide on‑call rotation, providing crisis response and support during nights, weekends, and holidays. RHDs are expected to actively engage and build relationships with students, conduct student behavior meetings and hearings, and uphold university policies through educational approaches aligned with North Carolina Preeminence 2030, Student Affairs Mission, and Housing and Residence Life’s Priorities and Attitudes. The position includes a furnished on‑campus apartment with most utilities as part of the total compensation package.

Primary Function Of Organizational Unit The Housing and Residence Life department provides housing accommodation and a certain quality of life for over 6000 students. It offers clean, safe, healthy, and comfortable living accommodations that support the academic mission of North Carolina A&T State University. The Residence Life program creates an environment that supports students in academic pursuits, encourages interpersonal development, and offers opportunities for growth. Responsibilities include overall leadership and management of all residence halls, assignments of rooms, occupancy status, housekeeping needs, maintenance concerns, and budgets, including operating and programming.

Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience: Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to foster diverse and inclusive relationships; high degree of cultural sensitivity; manage a variety of projects and responsibilities; experience in diverse populations; excellent organizational and time‑management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Master’s Degree preferred. Preference for candidates with professional or paraprofessional experience in residence life or commensurate experience in student affairs. Provide leadership, oversight, and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices align with the institution’s goals and core values.
