Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Random House, seeks a Senior or Executive Editor to join the team. This role will report to the VP, Editorial Director and will acquire and edit fiction with a strong focus on mysteries and thrillers.

A small list with a huge audience, Dutton is a general trade imprint within the largest English-language publisher in the world. Recent titles have become bestsellers, been national book club picks, and won the National Book Award. Publicity and marketing driven, its focused list of around sixty books per year is made up of half fiction and half nonfiction titles. Dutton's imprints include Plume and Tiny Reparations Books.

Dutton's current bestselling and award-winning authors include Sean Carroll, Fiona Davis, Annie Jacobsen, Jonathan Karl, Alex Kershaw, Denise Kiernan, Anna Lembke, Des Linden, Jason Mott, Nick Offerman, Kristin Perrin, Jo Piazza, Joe Posnanski, Ana Reyes, Riley Sager, Jim Sciutto, Tourmaline, Adriana Trigiani, Jeff Tweedy, Alan Weisman, Carl Zimmer, and more.

Specific responsibilities include:

Acquires, edits, and oversees the publication of 10-12 books per year. Communicates with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition through publication. Develops strong working relationships with Marketing, Publicity, Design, Managing Editorial, Production, and other essential in-house departments. Follows cultural and industry trends to aid in evaluating potential projects and identifies new opportunities. Effectively represents own list as well as the imprint to media, booksellers, foreign publishers, literary organizations, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents. The salary range for this position is $81,500 - $130,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
