
Overview
The William Morrow Group, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is seeking a creative, strategic, and innovative Marketing Director to lead the Avon Books team. This position will oversee marketing strategy for the Avon Books imprint, specializing in romance, and report to the Executive Director of Marketing for Fiction at the William Morrow Group. The William Morrow Group is comprised of several imprints—flagship imprint William Morrow, Avon, Dey Street, Mariner, Harvest, Voyager, as well as Young Adult. Although the director will oversee our romance publishing. Responsibilities
Oversees the marketing strategy and budget for the Avon Books list, managing priorities and conceiving high-impact activations for top titles and for the Avon Brand as a whole. Conceives, develops, and executes 4-6 marketing campaigns per season for top titles, in close collaboration with authors and internal team. This includes developing a variety of content for campaigns such as consumer-facing digital assets, promotions, and social media copy and content. Participates in major acquisition meetings on behalf of Avon Communicates detailed campaign updates directly to editors, publicists, publishers, sales teams, agents, and authors, presenting campaigns formally in key meetings. Advises authors on building and optimizing their social media presence and overall platform. Hands‑on with authors where necessary. Secures and oversees title‑specific and Avon brand cross‑promotional partnerships with third‑party brands and companies. Engages in industry and consumer‑facing imprint branding efforts as needed. Identifies opportunities for enhancing and improving marketing tactics—new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc. Works closely with the HarperCollins sales team to provide support in the form of materials, ideas, communication about developments with our books, retail opportunities, and more. Qualifications
At least 7-10 years of hands‑on book marketing or relevant product marketing experience, with increasing levels of responsibility for people management Creativity, curiosity, and the ability to conceive of and execute ideas outside of typical book publishing marketing tactics, including experiential marketing, events, innovative brand and creator partnerships, and more Experience creating compelling campaigns for fiction titles for high‑profile authors and brands, particularly in the romance space Excellent leadership, project management, communication, budget management, organization, prioritization, and presentation skills and a high level of professionalism Ability to work cross‑functionally across the division and within the company and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment A positive, can‑do attitude plus the ability to work well with different types of personalities Demonstrated knowledge of marketing trends and tactics, especially in the romance space Demonstrated knowledge of social media and influencer best practices and how they apply to books as a marketing and sales tool Design savvy and Adobe Creative Suite skills are a bonus College degree or equivalent work experience HarperCollins Publishers is a company full of people who are passionate about books.
