
Remote Chief Credit Officer- Private Lending

Position: Chief Credit Officer / EVP Credit
Work Model: Fully remote (Austin, TX preferred if local)
Schedule: Minimum 40 hours per week
Compensation: $150,000–$200,000 base salary (bonus/equity may be considered depending on structure and experience)

Overview This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and provides executive leadership over underwriting and credit risk management across the loan lifecycle. You will serve as the final authority for credit decisions and escalations, oversee credit policy and exception frameworks, and partner closely with Operations, Capital Markets, Technology, and Servicing to support disciplined growth while maintaining strong credit quality.
Responsibilities
Lead the credit risk management function, including underwriting strategy, credit policy, decisioning, and ongoing credit quality oversight.
Serve as final authority on credit decisions, exceptions, and escalations, including investor and secondary market credit escalations.
Establish, maintain, and enforce credit policies, procedures, and exception frameworks aligned to risk appetite and strategic objectives.
Manage and develop the underwriting organization (7 direct reports), including performance expectations, calibration, and accountability.
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Capital Markets, Technology, and Servicing to ensure underwriting execution supports capital markets requirements and saleability.
Drive scalable credit processes and controls to support increasing volume (100+ units/month today with a path to significant growth).
Qualifications
7+ years of progressive experience in credit, underwriting, or risk management within mortgage, private equity, or commercial lending.
5+ years in a senior leadership role (SVP/EVP/Head of Department) with decision authority and team oversight.
3+ years at a RTL lender (5+ preferred).
3+ years of DSCR or Non-QM lending experience.
Proven experience building and enforcing credit policy, procedures, and exception frameworks.
Strong cross-functional partnership experience with Operations, Capital Markets, and Technology.
Experience managing volume of more than 100 units per month.
Advanced Excel skills and LOS experience (RTL-related preferred).
