Crisis Center Assistant Director

POSITION SUMMARY/FUNCTION Position will serve as an Assistant to the Director of Crisis Services with managing staff and assist with the day to day operation of the program. Will serve as a backup to the Program Director in their absence and will rotate on call with Program Director, which will require on call after hours, including weekends, holidays, and/or evening work. The Assistant Director may be required to fill in shifts due to employee callouts, staff vacancies, etc. Provides therapeutic services to individuals served in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) unit employing various clinical and social treatment skills and approaches. Provides psychotherapy, documentation, coordination with agency services and response to emergency situations. Travel may be required within the five-county catchment area and/or statewide as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS

Assists Crisis Director with managing staff and day to day operation of the program as needed and/or requested.

Assists Crisis Director in ensuring program operates in compliance with SpectraCare Personnel Policy, SpectraCare Clinical Policy, including but not limited to the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities, notifying the Crisis Director of deficiencies and a plan of action to correct

Provides therapeutic services for clients within the mental health / substance use program.

Perform Mental Health and/or Substance Use Assessments and make appropriate after assessment evaluations regarding services. Provide contact to clients and direction in seeking mental health / substance use services or in placing them in services.

Performs administrative functions in support of clients served.

Provides crisis counseling as scheduled on Helpline

Fulfill duties of Nurse Delegation Program.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Ability to respond professionally in a crisis situation.

Leadership and management skills and abilities.

Ability to communicate with mental health / substance use clients as well as community agencies, other professionals and the public at large.

Knowledge of principles and methods of counseling.

Knowledge of mental illness and/or substance use issues and their social implications.

Skills in leading and directing group activities.

Ability to develop interpersonal relationships with clients.

Ability to counsel persons who are maladjusted, or drug/alcohol addicted.

Working knowledge of Business English, spelling and arithmetic.

Ability and knowledge of the clinical aspects of system requirements.

Ability to maintain unit files.

Ability to operate office machines such as computers, copier and fax machines.

Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and to establish effective working relationships with the Program Director, Executive Staff Officer and all levels of organizational staff.

Ability to make arithmetic computation and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed.

Ability to understand Alabama Department of Mental Health, Medicaid/Medicare record keeping requirements.

Ability to attend to detailed assignments and follow through with task until completion.

Ability to use discretion, independent action and judgment.

Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Ability to adapt to conditions which may vary considerably.

Ability to travel within five-county catchment area and/or statewide as needed.

Able to work in a fast pace environment.

Ability to get along with others and manage work related stress to ensure client/staff safety.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.

Has successfully completed a clinical practicum or has six (6) months post master’s clinical experience and

Holds a substance abuse counselor certification credential from the Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors, National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, Alabama Alcohol and Drug Association, or International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc. or

Willing to obtain a substance abuse counselor certification credential within thirty (30) months of hire if employee does not have one.

Possess a valid Driver License with good MVR.

Some travel within the catchment area or statewide may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Licensed in the State of Alabama as a Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Certified Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred but not required

Prefer two years post masters experience providing therapy.

Supervisory experience preferred.
