
Accounting Director - Financial Reporting and Systems (Hybrid)

PURPOSE:
Director of Accounting is considered part of the Finance & Accounting's Leadership Team and an expert in their field. The position will supervise one or more departments in their functional area and is expected to demonstrate all the leadership behaviors set forth by the Company in the manner in which they lead. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining strong financial internal controls and drive decisions that impact the Finance & Accounting organization. Additionally, this position is considered a visible resource across the enterprise, including members of the executive leadership team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Direct the management of the monthly closing of the financial systems, recording of accruals and reserves as appropriate, ensuring that all activities are executed in a timely manner and in accordance with associated accounting policies, procedures and guidelines. This function includes control over both the GAAP and STAT general ledger production and required analysis to ensure complete and accurate monthly financial statements. Directs and coordinates the successful completion of external audits.
Orchestrate the preparation and presentation of the analysis of the monthly financial results, with emphasis on key performance indicators and actual versus plan results for presentation to Executive management. Direct the needed research and analysis in response to special projects and ad-hoc requests related to the organization's financial performance, including analysis of individual company results, product segment income, and care results and trends. Establish a close working relationship with operations to provide information on the trending and issues related to financial results. Communicate findings to management through written and oral presentations.
Continual monitoring and assessment of the analytical tools and reports utilized with a focus on systems and process enhancements supporting financial management of the company. Direct the investigation of any unusual trends or potential issues to assure data integrity and identify business issues, as appropriate.
Coordinate the development and implementation of internal accounting controls. Establish, organize, and communicate accounting control policies and procedures. Ensure that accounting processes and operational functions are designed effectively to meet standard internal and GAAP controls and are implemented and consistently performed for all related Controller activities.
Direct and manage departmental staff through goal setting, guidance, support, coaching, and feedback consistent with corporate HR policies and practices. Prioritize and assign goals and projects; resolve employee issues and provide developmental opportunities. Produce and manage departmental budget.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position manages people.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or relevant field OR In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Licenses/Certifications Preferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)or
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) eligible to sit for CPA exam
Experience: 8 years progressively responsible accounting/auditing experience. 3 years management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with a health insurance organization, familiarity with Statutory Accounting Standards, and familiarity of Federal Government Regulations are all preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Exceptional, in-depth knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accounting.
Ability to analyze contractual agreements and an understanding of data processing functions and system interfaces.
Demonstrated leadership in applying and managing accounting standards and corporate financial policies.
Strong interpersonal skills, a team-oriented perspective and ability to deal effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization.
Ability to train and effectively develop department staff.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to present issues and conclusions to a diverse audience.
Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
Salary Range: $150,800 - $279,923
