1 The Assistant Camp Director is responsible for supporting the Camp Director with the execution of all activities and operations related to the Girl Scouts of Citrus Summer Camp Program. This is a seasonal position that will require living on site at either Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center or Riverpoint Program Center, Sunday through Friday, as assigned. Attendance and participation in training, setup, and cleanup weeks are required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with supervising, training, and evaluating all seasonal and camp-related program staff.
Ensure that camp facilities meet established standards before, during, and after camp sessions.
Work with the property staff and Girl Scout Experience team to identify and resolve property issues and needs.
Assist with the American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation process by supporting documentation collection, ensuring compliance with ACA standards, and participating in self-assessments, site visits, and continuous improvement efforts.
Assist with the planning and implementation of pre-camp staff training.
Promote a positive work environment and high staff morale through staff communication and staff development activities.
Ensure that a risk and crisis management plan and emergency procedures are in place, and that staff are trained and proficient in the respective procedures and policies; respond to all emergencies and crisis situations as needed.
Monitor safety protocols and procedures related to the oversight and supervision of all camper and staff activities.
Complete evaluations of staff, programs, operations, and related infrastructures.
Assist with the enforcement of a high level of safety and health standards, following emergency procedures as outlined.
Enforce all camp rules and policies.
Participate in all camp events, staff meetings, and other activities.
Be a role model; maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all staff.
Complete all assigned training modules prior to arrival.
Act as the Camp Director in their absence.
Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Education and Experience
Be at least 21 years of age.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a camp or youth education role.
Successful clearance of a Level 2 Criminal Background Screening, the National Sex Offender Public Website, and completion of GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Course.
Demonstrate the ability to guide/supervise other adults.
A willingness to place the needs of girls and the camp as a priority.
A willingness to adhere to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law.
The acceptance and understanding that employment is at an overnight camp and that, therefore, work hours are irregular.
A willingness to live, work, and sleep in a community environment within an outdoor setting.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and mental wellness of campers.
Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, self-control, and the ability to adapt well to changing situations.
Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive information; ability to manage conflict resolution.
Strong administrative, organizational, time management, communication, public speaking, managing multiple tasks and duties, and leadership skills.
Have a current GSUSA membership or be willing to obtain one prior to beginning work.
Must submit a current Health Examination signed by a medical professional prior to the first day of pre-camp.
Preferred
Experience in Girl Scouting
Lifeguard certification
Small Craft training/certification, completion of ONE of the following:
Girl Scouts small craft safety training
ACA Level 1: Introduction to Canoeing Instructor or higher
ARC Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module
American Canoe Association (ACA) Paddle sports Safety Facilitator certification in canoeing AND completion of a flat-water canoe safety and rescue skills course
Be a waterfront instructor with demonstrated equivalent experience in line with above credentials
Bi-lingual (Spanish and English)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Driver’s License required.
Must hold current CPR/First Aid certification or be able to pass the training at camp.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to work for long hours standing, walking, and/or sitting while being exposed to the sun, heat, wildlife, and varying weather conditions daily.
Ability to occasionally climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must have personal transportation and ability to drive, possess a valid driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance and meet the council insurance company’s requirements for coverage.
