
Position Summary
This position of Retail Specialist implements the day-to-day operations of the Citrus Council Shop including operating the shop in an organized, efficient, and accurate manner; providing exemplary customer service; processing transactions; tracking inventory, and maintaining an attractive and inviting shopping environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in opening and closing of the retail shop.
Has strong attention to detail.
Processes customer on‑site, email, and mail‑order sales and returns, including processing cash, check, and credit card payments, and refunds in accordance with council policies and procedures.
Provides excellent customer service and high-quality services to all internal and external customers by portraying a positive image of Girl Scouting.
Receives, inspects, counts, accepts inventory deliveries, barcodes products, and stocks shelves and displays.
Maintains Retail Shop in an attractive, organized, and functional manner by keeping the sales floor stocked and displays fresh and appealing, and monitors/cleaning the stock room, workstations, and sales counter.
Maintains and monitors inventory and proposes orders for approval to the shop manager. Reports discrepancies such as shipment shortages and back orders.
Gains knowledge and understanding of departmental operations to accurately respond to volunteer questions and requests.
Assists in packing and travels to Shop on the Road and Summer Camp Trading Post events as assigned.
Assist in the annual inventory process of the shop and stockroom.
Design retail advertisements, signage and promotional graphics using Canva.
Provides clarification and support to customers for the Girl Scout Program and corresponding merchandise/awards.
Maintains a flexible work schedule to rotate coverage of retail operations including evenings and Saturdays.
Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Education and Experience
Associates or higher, or equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience in retail sales.
Knowledge of retail policies and procedures.
Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Skills in working independently and following directions.
Skills in customer service practices and working in a fast-paced sales environment.
Skills in working with cash receipts, preparing orders, and processing returns.
Organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to learn Point of Sale software and other GSC databases.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
Ability to travel and transport shop merchandise to events as needed.
Valid driver’s license, use of a personal vehicle, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
Physical Requirements
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
