
Distribution Designer II – Power Utility Systems
Location: Colorado Springs, CO (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Pay Rate: $30.00–$40.00 per hour
Overview
A Distribution Designer II is needed to design safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric distribution systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This role supports a growing utility client and focuses on both overhead and underground power distribution design. Ideal for someone with hands-on utility distribution experience who enjoys technical design, cross-team coordination, and contributing to high-visibility projects with long-term growth potential.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare complete project and job packages including material lists, labor estimates, site plans, and construction drawings Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems in accordance with applicable codes and utility standards Perform engineering calculations and apply design standards to ensure safety, reliability, and cost efficiency Read and interpret blueprints, maps, specifications, change orders, and construction documents Develop pole placement, conductor sizing and routing, and equipment layouts for transformers, switches, and reclosers Use design software and work management tools to support project execution Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve design and field issues Communicate project status to ensure schedules and client expectations are met Maintain organized project files, drawings, and documentation Follow utility construction practices for work in public rights-of-way and private property
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering 2 or more years of power distribution design experience Experience with overhead and underground utility distribution systems Strong working knowledge of utility construction standards and codes Proficiency with AutoCAD-based design tools or similar utility design software Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, construction crews, and clients
Preferred Skills
Experience with AutoCAD Utility Design or similar platforms Utility distribution design experience supporting municipal or investor-owned utilities Experience designing pole layouts, conductor sizing, and distribution equipment Familiarity with storm response or emergency utility restoration work
