As a member of the Development Team, the Annual Giving Manager leads Manna Food Center’s individual donor and workplace giving programs in support of our mission to end hunger in Montgomery County. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Development and Community Partnerships. This dynamic role oversees multi-channel annual fund campaigns (direct mail and digital), donor engagement initiatives for a growing base of 13,000+ supporters, and Manna’s Peer-to-Peer fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate is a creative, donor-centered professional who thrives on building relationships, driving impact, and achieving results.
Essential Job Functions
Annual Fund Campaigns & Direct Response (35%)
Execute 4–6 multi-channel fundraising appeals annually targeting $3M+ in individual giving revenue. Develop campaign strategies including donor segmentation, messaging themes, and channel mix (mail, email, digital). Coordinate all aspects of direct mail production, including timelines, content collaboration with the Communications Team, list preparation with the Senior Donor Services Manager, and printer coordination. Manage online giving campaigns including Giving Tuesday (target: $250,000), Do More 24, and year-end digital appeals in partnership with the Communications Team. Monitor campaign analytics, track progress against goals, and adjust strategies to optimize results. Integrate planned giving messaging into appeals, including Make-A-Will Month promotion and the FreeWill portal. Donor Engagement & Stewardship (30%)
Coordinate donor cultivation and stewardship activities in collaboration with Development Directors. Partner with the Donor Relations Team on acknowledgment letter updates and implementation of the stewardship matrix. Develop, manage, and grow the recurring donor program, including courtesy reminders, upgrade requests, and retention strategies. Faith-Based & Community Fundraising (20%)
Lead the Harvest Against Hunger faith-based food and funds drive in partnership with a volunteer committee. Build and maintain relationships with faith communities to expand engagement across food donations, volunteerism, and financial giving. Manage workplace giving programs, including the Combined Federal Campaign, United Way, and Maryland Charity Campaign. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising (10%)
Lead Manna’s online fund collection drives and collaborate with the Donor Relations Team to manage the donation portal. Serve as staff support for community events benefiting Manna. Oversee event marketing and communications in partnership with the Communications Team, including invitations, landing pages, social media, and registration tools. Ensure an excellent donor and attendee experience for all events. Strategy, Data & Collaboration (5%)
Analyze donor data and campaign metrics to inform strategy and identify growth opportunities. Research and track a pipeline of individual donor prospects using Salesforce CRM and GivingDNA. Participate in Development Team meetings and contribute to overall fundraising strategy. Collaborate with the Donor Relations Manager on donor segmentation and gift processing workflows. Respond to donor calls and inquiries professionally and promptly. Required Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of individual giving best practices and donor-centered fundraising. Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously. Strong written communication and storytelling abilities. Analytical mindset with the ability to track metrics and adjust strategies based on data. Creative problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. Interpersonal skills to build relationships with donors, volunteers, and colleagues. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to team goals. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree required, with 3–4 years of relevant experience in fundraising, annual giving, donor relationship management, or a related field. Demonstrated success managing direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns. Experience planning and executing fundraising events (gala or similar signature events preferred). Proven ability to meet or exceed fundraising goals. Experience with donor database management and donor segmentation strategies. Minimum Requirements Collegial and collaborative approach to working with colleagues at all levels of the organization. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Proactive problem-solver able to work independently and within a team framework. Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality results in a fast-paced nonprofit environment with limited resources. Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback. Willingness to travel frequently between Manna’s Silver Spring office, Gaithersburg warehouse, food distribution sites, events, and community partner locations throughout Montgomery County. Availability for occasional evening and weekend work for events (approximately 6–8 events per year). Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time and occasionally move throughout the office to access files and equipment. This role requires constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment. The employee frequently communicates with the public, volunteers, and vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information. The employee may occasionally move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Environmental Conditions While training volunteers and attending off-site events, the employee may be exposed to fluctuating environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
