Overview:
Our client, a 133-bed hospital committed to delivering high-quality patient care, is seeking an experienced healthcare professional for the position of Director of Emergency Services. The Director will play a pivotal role in assuring service, growth, development, personnel management, and resource allocation in the Emergency Department, focusing on providing consistent, high-quality patient care. Responsibilities:
Problem Identification and Solutions: Accurately identify real/potential problems affecting the service and implement solutions with follow-through and effective communication. Committee Participation: Actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees, providing ongoing communication to represent Emergency Services. Patient Experience: Advance the patient experience agenda in the Emergency Department, ensuring compassionate and efficient care. Leadership and Coaching: Coach immediate subordinates by providing feedback, constructive critique of work, facilitating individual development plans, and documenting job performance. Human Resource Policies: Adhere to all Human Resource policies, fostering a positive work environment. Communication: Effectively communicate departmental, organizational, and industry information to staff, promoting transparency and teamwork. Employee Engagement: Facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practices and build strong relationships and networks to achieve organizational and department goals. Rounding and Mentorship: Participate in employee and patient rounding, identifying and mentoring potential future leaders within the Emergency Services team. Standards of Care: Enforce standards of emergency department care and develop processes to measure and ensure consistent compliance. Program Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing emergency services program, aligning with the Hospital mission. Compliance and Safety: Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies for patient services, environmental, and personnel safety. Performance Improvement: Oversee a performance improvement program that consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care. Operational Excellence: Ensure the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards. Exposure Control Plans: Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens. Recruitment Support: Support the recruitment process to secure staffing talent for the Emergency Services team. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in emergency services required. 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Facility Details: 133-bed hospital. 20-bed ER (and growing) + 11-bed FSED. No trauma designation. Main ED sees about 100 patients/day, and FSED sees 40-80 patients/day. Facility has inpatient behavioral health. Leadership Structure: 2 Managers report directly to Director (1 at the main ED & 1 at FSED). Currently 28 FTEs but target is 40. Working to hire in RNs currently (reliant on contract labor at the moment). Position reports to hospital COO.
