Position Description Position Summary:
The Superintendent is responsible for the daily oversight of construction activities at assigned project sites under the SBMP. This role ensures contractors comply with MTA safety, quality, and schedule requirements, while supporting the General Superintendent/Project Manager in resolving field issues. The Superintendent also provides technical guidance and mentoring to small business contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a consistent on‑site presence to observe and document construction activities.
Enforce safety protocols and verify contractor adherence to approved site logistics and safety plans.
Assist in reviewing submittals, daily reports, and schedules for accuracy and compliance.
Provide constructability feedback during field execution to improve efficiency and safety.
Support the General Superintendent, Project Manager, and Safety Manager in resolving field conflicts.
Document mentoring efforts and interactions with contractors to support program objectives.
Conduct daily site walkthroughs to monitor progress, safety compliance, and quality.
Coordinate sequencing, access, and material deliveries with contractors.
Track field production quantities and verify progress against the approved schedule.
Assist in reviewing and responding to RFIs and field clarifications.
Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and field orientation sessions.
Provide hands‑on mentoring to subcontractors on Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT), safety protection measures, and construction means/methods.
Report daily field conditions, progress updates, and safety observations to the General Superintendent and Project Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum of seven (7) years of construction management or monitoring experience.
Experience with MTA or other large public agency projects preferred.
Managed or monitored at least five (5) projects valued at $2 million or greater.
Strong background in infrastructure and heavy civil construction projects.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply contract documents, drawings, and shop drawings.
Training and experience in safety and quality assurance required.
Solid understanding of site logistics, safety compliance, and work coordination.
OSHA 30 certification required; Track Safety Training (TSS) preferred.
Strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate effectively with contractors and field personnel.
Experience in mentoring small business or M/W/DBE contractors strongly preferred.
