Ampirical’s Substation Engineering Division has recognized national expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical substations and switchyards. The mixture of our talents to offer all aspects of substation/switchyard design services, our trained resources to get the job done, and technical knowledge allows us to design a multitude of solutions to fit the client’s need. Your Role: Designer- Foundations
The Substation Civil Designer – Foundation Focus is responsible for developing detailed foundation and structural support drawings for electrical substation facilities. This includes equipment foundations, structural pads, trench/conduit foundations, and associated details. The designer works under the supervision of engineers to ensure all foundation related drawings comply with industry codes, geotechnical requirements, and client standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Use AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, MicroStation, or Bentley Substation to produce foundation plans, structural layouts, and detailed construction drawings Prepare foundation plans, reinforcement details, anchor bolt layouts, and equipment pad drawings Apply a basic understanding of foundation concepts, structural loading principles, and geotechnical inputs Support development of IFC‑ready design packages, including sheets, details, and bill of materials Interpret geotechnical and soil boring reports with moderate oversight Coordinate with engineers and senior designers to incorporate load data, equipment requirements, and structural constraints Apply client standards and industry codes (ASCE, ACI, AISC) with moderate oversight Assist with preliminary foundation sizing and layout based on provided engineering inputs Conduct self‑checks to identify obvious errors before internal review Participate in field visits with guidance to collect information relevant to foundation layout or equipment support conditions Collaborate with project teams and communicate design status under supervision Who You Are
