Staff Civil Designer
Position Summary The
Staff Civil Designer
will support a wide range of civil engineering projects by performing various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical design, report development, and the preparation of permitting, construction, and environmental documentation. This role works as part of a collaborative project team and supports a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design civil engineering projects including utilities and pipeline systems, site design, land development, permanent and temporary access roads, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utilities, sediment and erosion control, and traffic control plans.
Develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layouts, and calculations on non-routine assignments of moderate to high complexity.
Execute civil design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequencing, presentation, system sizing, and refinement of rough sketches.
Incorporate design changes, mark-ups, and revisions on active projects.
Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical or geologic data to support project planning and design.
Apply applicable design codes, standards, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Perform quality assurance reviews of design drawings to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
Prepare and report volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading.
Review project schedules, budgets, and criteria and incorporate them into civil design layouts.
Maintain organized and accurate project drawings, plot files, and related documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience (one of the following required):
Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field and minimum 7 years of related experience
Associate Degree and minimum 8 years of related experience
High School Diploma and minimum 9 years of progressive civil detailing and design experience
Expert-level proficiency in
AutoCAD ,
Civil 3D , and
Excel ;
MicroStation
experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
Working knowledge of civil engineering theory and practices, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Ability to operate related discipline design software to support production tasks.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline, multi-office environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
