Position Overview The Staff Civil Designer supports a project team by completing civil design work across multiple phases of planning, evaluation, design, and construction documentation. This role contributes to a variety of civil engineering projects for diverse clients and industries.

Key Responsibilities

Design civil engineering projects, including:

Site design and land development

Roadways and traffic control plans

Storm drainage and stormwater management systems

Water and sanitary sewer utility systems

Sediment and erosion control

Airports and facility design

Develop detailed construction drawings, layouts, and calculations for complex, non-routine assignments.

Perform civil design tasks using standard engineering methods, including:

Drawing sequencing and presentation

System component sizing

Refinement of preliminary sketches

Update and revise designs, markups, and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Review and interpret reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical/geologic data to support design decisions.

Apply applicable design codes, standards, and specifications to all deliverables.

Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure drawings align with project scope, budget, and schedule.

Prepare volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading.

Maintain organized storage of project drawings, plot files, and related documentation.

Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.

Requirements

Bachelor Degree in Drafting Technology or related field and 7 years related experience, or

Associate Degree and 8 years related experience, or

9 years progressive detailing and design experience.

Advanced understanding of design software, including:

AutoCAD

Civil 3D

MicroStation

Excel

Strong knowledge of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.

Solid understanding of civil engineering practices and ability to apply concepts across related disciplines.

Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline team environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
