We are seeking an Environmental Associate Underwriter to support our ESG Risk Solutions Underwriting team. ESG Risk Solutions is HDI Global’s newly established business dedicated to Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) and the development of innovative insurance solutions addressing today’s evolving ESG challenges. This role is designed as an associate-level underwriting position, supporting the analysis, underwriting, and management of environmental casualty risks while continuing to build technical expertise and progress toward increased underwriting authority and portfolio ownership. The position works closely with senior underwriters, brokers, and internal partners to deliver profitable and compliant environmental insurance solutions. Key Responsibilities
Assist in the underwriting of environmental risks, including pollution legal liability, contractor’s pollution liability, environmental casualty liability and related environmental coverages Analyze submissions, including applications, environmental reports, loss history, and financial information, to evaluate risk exposure Support senior underwriters in structuring terms, conditions, pricing, and coverage recommendations Prepare underwriting files, documentation, and binders in accordance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements Collaborate with brokers and internal stakeholders to obtain necessary underwriting information and respond to inquiries Monitor renewals, endorsements, and policy changes to ensure accuracy and timeliness Maintain underwriting data in internal systems and contribute to portfolio reporting and analysis Support compliance with internal underwriting authority, audit standards, and risk appetite Participate in ongoing training to expand environmental underwriting knowledge and technical skills Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field 1+ years of experience in environmental underwriting, environmental insurance, or related P&C underwriting experience Working knowledge of environmental insurance products and pollution-related risks Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risk information Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced underwriting environment Preferred: Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or environmental-focused coursework or certifications Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000, plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including experience, education, and location.
