Mid-Level Interior Designer (5-10 years experience)

to join our passionate, purpose-driven studio in Des Moines. We’re a small but mighty team of architects and designers dedicated to crafting meaningful, human-centered commercial spaces that elevate everyday life and strengthen Midwestern communities. Our work spans architecture, interiors, and urbanism — always with a focus on clarity, precision, and real impact.

As a teaching studio, we value team members who take ownership of their work while growing alongside talented colleagues. You’ll contribute meaningfully to projects from concept through construction, with opportunities to lead interior scope development and mentor emerging talent.

What You’ll Do

Develop and document the interior scope of work under the direction of senior staff, with increasing independence and responsibility for design direction.

Receive design and technical guidance from senior team members and incorporate feedback effectively into projects.

Produce complete construction documentation packages, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, interior details, millwork design, furniture layouts, finish plans, and schedules.

Demonstrate full competency across all phases of the design process, including FF&E selection, specification, and coordination.

Liaise directly with General Contractors, consultants, and vendors on design coordination, cost implications, and value-engineering solutions.

Review and redline drawings for internal team and external coordination.

Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, ADA guidelines, and project-specific protocols.

Coordinate with furniture vendors, review proposals for design intent and budget alignment.

Manage and prioritize work across multiple projects in various phases; mentor and train junior staff.

Lead construction-phase services with minimal oversight, including attending OAC meetings, conducting site visits, preparing field reports, reviewing submittals/RFIs, and managing punch lists.

Learn and apply the SSA design process and key software tools (ArchiCAD, SketchUp).

Complete design work from initial pullback through detailed working drawings in alignment with project proposals.

Present design concepts confidently to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Attend client meetings, design critiques, and collaborative sessions.

Who We’re Looking For The ideal "Slinger" holds a Bachelor’s (four-year) or Master’s degree in Interior Design, possesses NCIDQ licensure, and brings 5–10 years of experience (including at least 2 years in a design firm). You thrive when you:

Excel in a fast‑paced, small‑team setting committed to exceeding expectations daily.

Demonstrate a strong design instinct, a generous approach to teamwork, and clarity in communication.

Possess working knowledge of color, materials, aesthetic form, and space‑planning methodology.

Have intermediate sketching and rendering skills.

Understand construction documentation and procedures.

Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and have intermediate MS Office Suite skills.
