The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) supports youth and community services through contracts with community‑based organizations throughout New York City. DYCD Youth Services—including BEACON, COMPASS, CORNERSTONE, RHY, SNL, and CACFP programming—seeks to support community‑based organizations in delivering high‑quality after‑school services through funding, monitoring, coaching, capacity building, evaluation and advocacy. DYCD Youth Services is hiring a Communications Manager to join the Youth Services Operations Team.

The Youth Services Operations Team provides specialized support and guidance to the entire Youth Services initiative with facility set‑up and licensing, policy development, contract compliance and performance, data analysis and interpretation, unit operations and efficiencies, system overview and enhancements, and communication to contracted providers.

The Communications Manager will support both internal and external partners with communication and project management efforts toward Youth Services initiatives. This individual will oversee the advancement of key initiatives, including deadline management, asset organization, and accessibility, while ensuring transparency regarding next steps and objectives for all relevant stakeholders.

Key Tasks

Collect contract performance information, analyze trends, and make recommendations for continuous quality improvements from existing programs/systems.

Communicate with contractors to address questions, clarify policies and contract requirements, provide technical assistance, and coordinate special projects.

Review contract and performance‑related documents, ensuring all contractual and programmatic requirements are adhered to by providers.

Monitor and review program/agency deadlines, submission of required information/documentation, and data entry of surveys and media content.

Maintain and assist with updating operational documents, such as internal document libraries, media folders, and procedural guides in coordination with the Youth Services team.

Assist with agency and Youth Services events to capture media content and manage logistical support for sharing with the communications team, focusing on highlighting the initiatives of Youth Services.

Support the Operations Team by collecting data, evaluating training competencies, and coordinating stakeholder engagement for internal meetings, webinars, and Youth Services communications. Submit all relevant information to the supervisor within designated deadlines.

Utilize project management systems and tools to monitor key initiatives and facilitate communication with stakeholders regarding mission, objectives, and upcoming actions.

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or

High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Proficiency with the MS Office application suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint; experience with MS Planner is preferred.

Understanding of basic Excel formulas to efficiently compile and analyze key data points.

Ability to develop presentations that effectively support goal achievement, clearly communicate objectives, and are tailored for large‑scale meetings with consistency, branding, and accessibility.

Project management experience with the ability to monitor progress on extensive, large‑scale projects and communicate timelines, objectives, updates, and next steps.

Experience navigating multiple data systems.

Knowledge about after‑school programs (preferred).

Experience building quantitative and qualitative reports using large data sets.

Excellent communication skills, with experience in media/communications.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Salary: $62,868.00 – $97,593.00
