Overview
With Herndon camps you’ll build your resume and your professional skills by gaining experience in leadership, decision‑making, and communication. Summer camps are a renowned springboard to progressively responsible full and part‑time positions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the operation, planning and supervision of a nine‑week recreational summer camp for children ages 6-12.
Assist with daily programming and supervision of the camp and the camp staff.
This position involves daily interaction with parents.
Lead activities, games, sports, arts & crafts, and other recreation events.
Evaluate program; submit weekly reports when required.
Other related duties that may apply.
Requirements
CPR and first aid certifications required.
Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Must work full nine‑week camp, plus one‑week staff orientation and one‑ or two‑weeks planning time.
Previous supervisory and camp leadership experience preferred.
Educational background in recreation, physical education, or related field desired.
Interest in youth recreation activities preferred.
Hours
Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours/week during camp sessions.

Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Avenue
Registration discount to Herndon Odyssey camp** for age‑eligible children of temporary or PTF employees who are working directly to support the summer camp program(s). Including camp counselors, Head Counselors, Directors and Assistant Directors, Inclusion coordinator and leaders, Camp administrator for science, nature, dance, tennis, Odyssey, and Teen Discovery camps. Contracted camp staff not included.
Can apply for up to 2 children*** of the staff member, 25% discount off the resident rate; only during employee’s scheduled work weeks; enrollment maximums apply, pre‑registration required.
**Specialty camps are not included (dance, tennis, contracted camps, science, nature, etc)
***includes foster, step, natural, custodial children (Can a younger sibling to a counselor earn discount? Yes)
