Auditor Position

Under general supervision, performs technical accounting duties involving the accounting, recording, processing and reporting of accounts payable and receivable, payroll, revenue and other technical accounting functions; reviews, researches, reconciles and assures the accuracy of ledgers and accounts. Salary will depend on qualifications. Processes accounting and financial documents and technical transactions in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment.

Posts documents and computer accounting entries, performs other technical accounting activities; including general ledger, accounts payable, revenue, special fund accounting, bank reconciliations, payroll; reviews and validates data.

Reviews source documents for compliance with rules, regulations and county policy; determines proper handling of financial and technical transactions within designated limits; reports discrepancies.

Checks documents for validity and accuracy of information; performs mathematical calculations; records, files and distributes related paperwork and technical documents.

Processes employee time, attendance, and payroll records including insurance and tax information, deductions, direct deposit; ensures all documentation is properly completed and consistent with applicable laws and contracts.

Processes and audits county payroll on a bi-weekly basis. Balances payroll, print checks and make necessary corrections as necessary

Evaluates timecards submitted by departments ensuring that time submitted is accurate and consistent with federal and state employment laws as well as county policy. Advises departments with questions and problems regarding payroll.

Assists with development and maintenance of payroll database and electronic time and attendance system. Assists in training and working with other county payroll specialists on payroll and electronic time and attendance system changes and procedures.

Responds to request for payroll and wage verification information from internal and external sources.

Works with Human Resources department to maintain accurate employee records to ensure accurate pay information and obtain necessary policy/union contract interpretations.

Other duties assigned by the Auditor. Knowledge of:

General accounting standards, policies, procedures and regulations.

Accounting principles and methods.

Applicable state and federal rules, codes, and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.

Principles of record keeping and records management.

General ledger reconciliation procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Associate's degree in business, accounting or related field or (x) years of job-related experience in accounting/payroll preferred.

Previous experience with computerized payroll and electronic time and attendance systems.

Ability to pay strict attention to detail, maintain confidentiality and prioritize tasks to ensure completion of strict deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to utilize general office equipment, personal computers and various software applications including but not limited to: Microsoft 365 (Excel & Word).

Strong mathematical skills to analyze detailed numerical information and make accurate calculations.

Ability to establish working relationships with employees at all levels of the county.

Effective written, verbal and listening communication skills are required.
