Managing Director of Operations A proven people leader experienced in building high‑performance teams, the Managing Director of Operations will lead a multi‑disciplinary team of 20+ employees while delivering operational excellence. With a deep understanding of securities handling and processing, the Managing Director will organize cross‑functional groups toward a cohesive and aligned strategy for the benefit of Odyssey’s clients and shareholders.
In tandem with other senior leaders at Odyssey, the Managing Director of Operations will execute and improve Odyssey’s operating model which centres around efficiency, automation, and adherence to compliance. They will also partner with client‑facing teams to support clients, including participation as a subject‑matter expert (SME), Risk Committee deliberations, and other operational committees.
Key Accountabilities Primary Operational Responsibilities
Oversees all operational functions within the department and manages the Operations team.
Ensures all transactional processing is performed within internal and regulatory turnarounds.
Establishes effective policies, procedures, and training materials within the department.
Builds upon existing internal knowledge centres and explores new partnerships.
Optimises the department’s operating processes, employs strategies to continuously improve, and maximises efficiency.
Identifies and drives opportunities for digitisation and automation alongside other departments to enhance operational functionality.
Leads projects that will enhance productivity, improve quality, and streamline processes.
Forecasts and strategically implements short‑ and long‑term solutions to build the business.
Monitors and delegates workloads while focusing on controlling costs through effective management of resources.
Collaborates with compliance and regulatory teams to enhance risk and control frameworks.
Handles complex inquiries and escalations and ensures procedures are maintained and updated.
Manages Errors and Omissions, while maintaining a focus on long‑term resolutions.
Manages reporting in accordance with the respective policies and procedures.
Collaborates with industry stakeholders to innovate transfer‑agent guidelines.
In addition to the responsibilities noted above, management may request the completion of other ad‑hoc duties or projects.
Primary Team Responsibilities
Develops strategies to maintain low attrition, high retention, and growth.
Cultivates an atmosphere of trust, engagement, and collaboration.
Monitors the team’s quality and productivity; and where required, addresses low performance.
Develops and maintains metrics and KPIs to track team performance and forecast future needs.
Enhances a high‑performance culture by effectively managing and coaching team members.
Promotes a culture of continual improvement through leading by example.
Employs initiatives to coach employees to optimise their capabilities, including cross‑training and delegating responsibilities to ensure team members’ continued growth and development.
Monitors and delegates workloads to meet operational goals and ensure the team delivers exceptional service.
Demonstrates and promotes company values.
Skills and Experience
University degree.
Deep knowledge of the securities industry.
High attention to detail and accuracy with a focus on identifying and mitigating risk and controls.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to remain organised and prioritise multiple tasks with varying levels of urgency.
Willingness and desire to achieve personal goals and team goals.
Excellent leadership, mentorship and interpersonal skills.
Strong critical analysis skills and eagerness to drive process improvements and innovation by identifying problem areas and presenting solutions to management.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information as part of the job function.
Working knowledge of the securities industry as it relates to transfer agencies is preferred.
