Portfolio Evaluation Analysts

to support

ongoing assessment of portfolio company performance and valuation .

Individuals in roles like this focus on evaluating investment performance relative to underwriting assumptions, supporting valuation and reporting processes, and providing analytical insight that informs value-creation strategies, capital allocation, and exit timing.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Evaluate portfolio company financial performance versus original underwriting cases, budgets, and forecasts

Analyze revenue growth, margins, cash flow, leverage, and return drivers

Identify performance variances, risks, and value-creation opportunities

Monitor KPIs, covenant compliance, and operational metrics

Valuation & Return Analysis Support quarterly and annual portfolio valuation processes

Update operating models, valuation models, and return analyses for existing investments

Perform sensitivity analyses and downside scenarios

Support fair value determinations using comparable companies, precedent transactions, and intrinsic valuation methods

Investment Committee & Reporting Support Prepare portfolio review materials, valuation memos, and performance summaries

Support quarterly investment committee meetings and LP reporting

Respond to ad hoc analytical requests from senior investment professionals

Work with portfolio company management teams to gather and analyze financial and operating data

Support operational improvement initiatives, growth strategies, and strategic planning

Assist with analysis for bolt-on acquisitions, refinancings, recapitalizations, and exit readiness

Process Improvement & Data Management Help standardize portfolio monitoring and evaluation frameworks

Maintain accurate and timely portfolio data and reporting tools

Contribute to continuous improvement of analytics, dashboards, and internal reporting processes

Ideal Candidate Profile This profile reflects the competencies commonly sought by firms for roles of this type.

Education & Technical Skills Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field

Strong Excel and financial modeling skills

Solid understanding of accounting, valuation, and private equity fundamentals

Experience (Formal or Informal) Prior internships or experience in private equity, investment banking, transaction advisory, portfolio analytics, consulting, or corporate finance is beneficial

Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, or valuation analysis is a plus

Demonstrated interest in portfolio evaluation or post-investment analysis

Soft Skills & Mindset Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail

Ability to synthesize complex financial data into clear insights

Clear written and verbal communication skills
