About the Role The Senior Human Resources Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department, providing guidance and expertise across all HR functions with a focus on compensation, benefits administration, onboarding, and leave of absence management. This role partners with leadership and employees across multiple divisions to ensure HR programs are effectively executed and aligned with company goals. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, and able to balance tactical execution with strategic HR support.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a key HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters.

Administer and manage compensation and benefits programs, including salary structures, incentive plans, health benefits, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.

Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.

Manage the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.

Support benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee communication efforts.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws (NYS, SC, and Canadian compliance preferred).

Oversee HR data management and reporting, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of employee records in HRIS systems (UKG or similar).

Partner with payroll and finance on personnel changes, wage adjustments, and compliance audits.

Assist in developing and updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to reflect company and regulatory changes.

Support recruiting efforts, including job postings, interviews, and coordination with hiring managers.

Lead or participate in HR projects related to engagement, retention, and training initiatives.

Provide coaching and support to supervisors and employees to foster a positive and compliant workplace culture.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

1-3 years of human resources experience, with demonstrated expertise in compensation and benefits.

Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws (NYS required; multi-state experience preferred).

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency with HRIS systems (UKG or ADP Workforce Now preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in construction, maritime, or industrial sectors.

Familiarity with Canadian employment regulations a plus.

Knowledge of basic employment law and HR compliance practices.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Occasional travel to field sites, job locations, or company divisions as needed.

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds if necessary.

Office-based role with occasional field or site visits.

Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during peak HR periods (e.g., open enrollment or audits).

Additional Requirements

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
