
Tax Senior
Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated
Tax Senior
to join our California tax team. In this role, you will take a lead position in preparing and reviewing tax returns, handling more complex tax matters, and supporting tax planning initiatives for a diverse client base, including corporations, partnerships, trusts, and high‑net‑worth individuals. The Tax Senior will work closely with managers and partners while mentoring junior staff and serving as a key resource on California and multistate tax issues.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and
review
federal and California state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts
Lead preparation of tax extensions, estimated payments, and tax projections
Research and analyze complex California and multistate tax issues using tools such as CCH or BNA, and communicate findings clearly
Assist with tax planning strategies and compliance initiatives for clients
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on routine tax matters
Support and help manage IRS and California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) audits and correspondence
Review workpapers prepared by Tax Associates and provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship
Ensure accurate, well‑organized documentation and compliance with firm standards
Stay current on federal and California tax law changes and communicate impacts to the team
Utilize tax preparation software (e.g., Lacerte) efficiently to process and review returns
Collaborate effectively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA license or actively pursuing CPA licensure in California
3–5 years of tax experience, preferably in public accounting
Strong understanding of federal and California state tax regulations
Experience preparing and reviewing multiple entity types
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Preferred:
Advanced knowledge of California tax issues, including FTB and multistate filings
Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
Familiarity with complex tax compliance and planning engagements
Experience using Lacerte and tax research platforms such as CCH or BNA
Salary Range $70,304 – $90,000 annually , depending on experience and qualifications
