Summary As part of the Congregation team at The Austin Stone Community Church, the Kids Ministry Director will be responsible to lead and pursue excellence in the ministry to the children of the Congregation. The Kids Ministry Director position will ensure that the programs offered are safe, engaging, and high quality, and that the children at the congregation are hearing the truth of God, experiencing the love of Christ, and having fun at church. The Kids Director will report to the Congregation Executive Pastor.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead Kids ministry in alignment with the vision and strategies developed by the congregation staff team and the Family Ministries team.

Supervise and develop the Kids ministry staff team at the congregation.

Ensure the faithful execution of curriculum, Sunday ministry, policies, and volunteer screening in accordance with church safety policies.

Recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams for Sunday KIDS ministry programming.

Responsible for ongoing pastoral care and shepherding of KIDS leaders volunteers.

Support the elders and CXP in the pastoral care of families.

Facilitate regular and effective communication with parents about programs, teaching, resources, and general promotion of the KIDS Ministry to the Congregation.

Continually assess and report on ministry effectiveness, make improvements as needed.

Coordinate learning environments on relevant topics for parent discipleship, and lead parents through childhood milestones such as Parent/Child Dedication, baptisms, and the transition out of Kids ministry.

Support central Austin Stone Kids ministry events and trainings in collaboration with other KIDS Directors and under the direction of the Executive Pastor of Gathering Ministry.

Collaborate with congregation leadership and provide timely and effective communication.

Maintain records and manage ministry budget.

Attend and participate in all required events and activities for The Austin Stone, including all Sunday services (including major holidays), staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, Central Kids Ministry events, continuing education events, training opportunities, etc.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field, preferred.

2 years of experience leading children’s ministry (years in residency may be considered, depending upon level of responsibility).

Experience managing budgets and safety initiatives.

Experience leading volunteer team of more than 30 people, preferred.

Has clarity of speech and proper use of grammar. Demonstrated capacity to inspire, instruct, and encourage through effective communication in various settings. Able to communicate and work within a complex organizational structure with multiple layers of input.

Detail Oriented & Organizational Skills

– Proven skills in creating, implementing, maintaining, and following through on processes that ensure people are engaged, cared for, informed and connected. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. Able to create and manage a ministry budget. Able to successfully develop new and better ways to work and promotes a continuous improvement mentality.

Leadership Development

– Skilled at multiplying effective ministry leaders who can communicate and uphold the values of The Austin Stone. Ability to lead, recruit, resource, and mobilize volunteer teams to scale. Ability to recruit, manage, and lead resident/intern teams. Ability to engage, interact with, teach, equip, and train children in a large group setting. Able to teach and to generate content and curriculum.

Collaborative Leadership Skills

– Strong complementary leadership skills in relation to the rest of the congregation staff team and an ability to lead in concert with other leaders. Ability to integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan. Ability to cultivate relationships, and build collaborative and diverse teams.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Occasional lifting of objects or children up to 30 pounds.

Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, and similar machines.

Setup at our South and Downtown congregations involves pulling/pushing bins in and out of storage, unloading/loading plastic bins, and setting up tables and chairs after pulling them out of bins.

As part of our child safety program, employees in this role will be required to participate in a child safety screening and training process upon hire.
