The Museum Ambassador leads key initiatives including a
video interview project (oral histories)
and the development of
interactive, youth-focused activities
, while working closely with the Museum Director and the Museum Communications Coordinator. This role is designed to grow as funding increases and may evolve into a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities Grant Writing & Funding Development (Core Priority)
Research and identify
local, state, national, and private funding opportunities
Draft, submit, and track
grant applications
in collaboration with the Museum Director
Contribute narratives focused on education, equity, access, and community impact
Collect data, metrics, and documentation for grant reporting
Support post-award reporting and compliance
Help build long-term funding strategies to sustain programs and staffing
Video Interview Project & Digital Storytelling
Conduct and coordinate video interviews
with community members, historians, and partners
Prepare interview content (research, question development, scheduling, consent)
Supervise interns and contractors involved in filming, editing, captioning, and archiving
Oversee
post-production workflows
to ensure quality, accessibility, and consistency
Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator on dissemination and integration into exhibitions and educational programs
Intern Management & Supervision
Recruit, onboard, and supervise interns and volunteers
Coordinate intern schedules and assignments across projects
Provide training, mentorship, and regular feedback
Ensure intern work aligns with learning objectives, museum priorities, and EDI values
Visitor Experience & Public Programs
Organize, coordinate, and lead
guided visits
for the public, schools, and special groups
Represent the museum during
open hours, Saturdays, and evening programs
Assist with lectures, openings, workshops, and special events
Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for all visitors
Youth Engagement & Interactive Programming
Lead the development of
interactive, hands-on activities for children and families
Collaborate with interns on testing and refining educational tools
Support school partnerships and age-appropriate programming
Ensure activities are accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive
Museum Operations & Collections Management
Maintain and update the
museum catalog and collections database
Enter, organize, and manage data as needed
Assist with inventory, documentation, and basic collections care
Support exhibition installation, rotation, and maintenance
Partnerships, Outreach & Promotion
Develop partnerships with
schools, universities, cultural organizations, and local institutions
Represent the museum at
local fairs, festivals, and community events
Coordinate closely with the Museum Communications Coordinator on outreach and promotion
Actively promote museum programs, exhibitions, and educational initiatives

Qualifications
Experience in museums, cultural institutions, nonprofits, or education
Grant writing experience
Passionate about history
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Speaks and reads French fluently (can conduct guided visits in French)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small-team environment
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and public-facing cultural work
Experience with video, oral history, or youth programming is a plus but not required.
