We’re looking for a versatile, detail-oriented

Freelance E-Commerce Copywriter

to create compelling product and category content that drives online engagement and conversions. You’ll transform technical details into clear, benefit-driven copy that makes it easy for customers to understand, compare, and purchase products across a wide range of categories.

This role suits a writer who understands how shoppers browse and buy online, enjoys working within structured templates, and can maintain quality at scale across large product catalogs.

Responsibilities

Develop and refine e-commerce content

for product detail pages and related assets, including:

Product names/titles

Short and long descriptions

Feature and benefit bullet points

Basic meta titles and descriptions

Occasional category, collection, and landing page copy

Translate technical specifications

(dimensions, materials, usage guidelines, certifications, etc.) into customer-friendly, value-focused language that highlights use cases and outcomes.

Apply brand and style guidelines

to ensure consistent tone, structure, and formatting across all assigned SKUs and templates.

Perform light research

using vendor materials, spec sheets, internal resources, and online tools to confirm product details and close information gaps.

Incorporate SEO best practices

by using relevant keywords naturally, structuring content for scan-ability, and aligning with search intent.

Partner with internal teams

(such as merchandising, marketing, and digital content) to clarify product details, align on priorities, and ensure copy supports broader business goals.

Audit and improve existing copy

as needed—refreshing outdated information, enhancing clarity, and aligning legacy content with current standards.

How You’ll Work

Remote-first:

Work from your preferred location while consistently meeting deadlines and weekly content targets.

Process-driven workflow:

Receive and manage assignments through project and content management tools; update statuses and share deliverables in an organized, trackable way.

Clear guidelines:

Write within established templates, style guides, and formatting rules, while suggesting improvements when you see opportunities.

High-volume production:

Balance speed and accuracy to deliver a regular volume of high-quality product copy each week.

Requirements

3+ years of e-commerce, product, or catalog copywriting experience

(agency, in-house, or freelance).

Portfolio showcasing product page content

(titles, bullets, and descriptions for online retail or B2B commerce).

Excellent writing fundamentals:

clear, concise, grammatically sound, benefit-oriented, and customer-centric.

Comfort with structured content:

able to work within templates, character limits, and standardized fields.

Working knowledge of SEO

and familiarity with how customers search, filter, and compare products on e-commerce sites.

Strong attention to detail

with the ability to follow style guides, naming conventions, and category-specific rules.

Reliable availability

for 30–40 hours per week with overlap during U.S. business hours.

Nice to Have

Experience writing for

foodservice, hospitality, retail, industrial, or commercial products .

Background working with

large product catalogs or multi-brand environments .

Familiarity with

e-commerce platforms

(e.g., Shopify, Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud) and/or PIM/PCM systems.

Experience improving on-page content for

conversion rate optimization

(A/B testing, UX collaboration, etc.).

Compensation

Rate:

$35–$42 per hour, commensurate with experience and portfolio strength.

Freelance engagement:

Hourly contract with an anticipated steady workload during the engagement period.
