We are currently seeking a
Financial Aid Advisor.
This is an On‑ground position at the Gurnick Academy, San Jose Campus.
Job Type: Full‑time
Hourly Pay Range: $19.80 – $29.15 per hour

Basic Function The Financial Aid Advisor I [FAA I] is the primary interface for students to determine eligibility for financial aid, aid in the application process for financial aid, calculation of tuition amounts/adjustments, and counsel students on the implications of debt, and the cash flow and timing requirements of loan payback. The FAA I is also responsible for assisting students in applying for any other funding that may be available to them, including CAL Grant programs, program‑specific assistance (such as nursing or ultrasound, etc.), scholarships and grants, VA, vocational rehabilitation programs, etc.
The FAA I is also responsible for packaging student assistance awards, scheduling the awards correctly in the Gurnick tracking systems, and updating the information during repackaging, crossover award year reapplications, and at student exit interviews for withdrawing, LOA, or graduating students. The FAA I will also perform both a Tuition Adjustment Calculation and a Return to Title IV (R2TIV) funds calculation for any students withdrawing or beginning a LOA.
In addition, the FAA I will be responsible for explaining the payment requirements on unfunded balances and securing a signed payment plan from the student prior to program start.
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s degree is preferred
2 years prior work experience in financial aid, collections, and lending
Customer service experience is desirable
Organizational knowledge of educational institutions
Registrar experience or support preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of software applications including Google Suite
Ability to meet deadlines mandatory
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
Excellent attention to detail
Prior demonstrated experience with student tracking software / systems
Excellent communication and listening skills
