The Opportunity Join our client, a leading Sales, Distribution, and Maintenance organization as the strategic head of the Occupational Safety (OS) function. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will define the safety culture for operations across the United States and Canada.
We are looking for a "boots-on-the-ground" leader who is equally comfortable in the field as they are presenting high-level strategy to corporate executives. You will be responsible for balancing cost-efficiency with risk-return initiatives to drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the OS strategy, establishing systems, protocols, and accountabilities that ensure employee engagement and compliance.
Culture Transformation: Lead the shift toward a proactive safety culture, fostering a shared sense of responsibility across all business units.
Operational Oversight: Manage safety functions across all US and Canadian operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Compliance & Risk Management: Strategically balance the costs of safety initiatives with risk mitigation to protect both employees and the bottom line.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience: 7+ years of OS leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a lead role for a company or major business unit.
Cultural Impact: Proven track record of successfully driving organizational changes in safety culture.
Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrated success in Fleet Safety policies and deep knowledge of OSHA and Workers’ Compensation regulations.
Program Development: Experience designing and implementing comprehensive, ongoing safety training programs.
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
Preferred Competencies
Professional Certifications: CSP, CIH, COSS, MSP, or CSD.
Regional Expertise: Practical experience with Canadian national and provincial safety regulations.
