
Senior Pastor Job Description Overview
The Senior Pastor that God has chosen for United Baptist Church will be a servant leader with vision and passion for people and for God’s work. He will have strong bilingual communication skills (English and Spanish) at the pulpit and interpersonally. He will delight in developing new leaders, have a heart for evangelism, personal and community service, and have the ability to inspire others to walk more deeply with our Lord and Savior.
Formal Responsibilities: Leadership, Vision, and Administration
Seek God’s Word and God’s leading for United Baptist Church
Discern and communicate vision and direction in conjunction with church leadership
Lead, shepherd, and develop the pastoral team and support staff; and maintain care group ministries.
Effectively identify and develop the gifts and talents of church staff and lay leaders
Inspire, influence, and challenge the spiritual wellbeing of the congregation, so that the church may glorify God by modeling integrity in their public and private lives.
Lead church staff meetings, encourage team ministry, and maintain unity.
Seek the lost, nourish God’s people, and protect the flock from false doctrine with a sacrificial heart like Jesus.
Preach and Teach
Preach with both depth and breadth
Depth – Sound biblical doctrine, Gospel-centered, authentic, heartfelt and encourages obedience.
Breadth – Multigenerational, relational, and relevant
Leads evangelism efforts through Spirit‑filled preaching and altar calls during worship services, revivals and other church events, visitation and outreach efforts.
Set an Example
Model a life passionate for Jesus Christ and His kingdom
Model a heart committed to sharing the good news of Jesus and His love with a lost world and making disciples in accordance with Matthew 28:18‑20
Model a life of personal reliance upon God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Demonstrate a deep love for people and model discipleship by teaching and leading in the context of God‑honoring relationships.
Others requirements:
The Senior Pastor shall meet the New Testament requirements for office as listed in 1 Timothy 3:17, Titus 1:69, 1 Peter 5:1‑4, and James 1:27
A commitment to sound biblical doctrine.
Must support the constitution of United Baptist Church and the Baptist Faith & Message United Baptist Church maintains its local autonomy and is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention Preference will be given to candidates who:
Can preach, teach, and counsel in English and Spanish.
Have obtained a Master's Degree or above from an accredited university recognized by the BGCT.
Have 3‑5 years of ordained pastoral experience.
$70,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience
