PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Trident Seafoods is North America's largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company. Trident catches and processes virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also encompasses cultured and wild species sourced from an international network of trusted suppliers.

Summary: The Public Affairs Community Engagement Director will plan, coordinate, and execute Alaska‑based public affairs education and advocacy focused on fisheries science, responsible conservation, and the health of seafood‑dependent communities and economies.

This role partners closely with Trident’s Communications team and external contractors to ensure education materials are accurate, effective, and aligned with Trident standards, strategy, and company goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and manage Alaska‑focused public affairs education and advocacy outreach, including outreach objectives, workplans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables
  • Coordinate with Public Affairs leadership to ensure outreach activities align with applicable policies, regulations and requirements
  • Serve as the central point of coordination for outreach execution, ensuring initiatives move forward on time and with clarity across multiple workstreams
  • Monitor progress, flag risks or issues, and provide regular updates to Public Affairs leadership

Coalition & Grassroots Engagement

  • Build, strengthen, and sustain coalitions with Alaskan seafood sector partners, fishing community leaders, and aligned organizations
  • Coordinate grassroots education and engagement efforts in Alaska population centers to address misinformation and increase public understanding of fisheries management and conservation practices
  • Support inclusive, respectful engagement with diverse stakeholders, including rural and subsistence‑reliant communities

Issue Education & Advocacy Support

  • Translate complex fisheries science, policy, and management topics into clear outreach objectives and audience‑specific inputs
  • Coordinate contributions from internal and external subject matter experts to support education and advocacy priorities
  • Support internal education efforts that deepen understanding among Trident employees and fishermen of Alaska’s stakeholder landscape and community perspectives

Cross Functional & Communications Coordination

  • This position is focused on outreach planning, coalition coordination, and execution. Communications strategy, media relations, and corporate brand management remain the responsibility of Trident’s Communications team
  • Partner with Trident’s Communications team and agency contractors to scope, brief, review, and deliver outreach materials (e.g., toolkits, presentations, fact sheets, digital content)
  • Ensure outreach assets are accurate, consistent, and brand‑compliant
  • Coordinate logistics, materials, and follow‑up for community meetings, forums, and stakeholder engagements

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $160,000 to $200,000.

Trident Seafoods offers a comprehensive and quality benefits package. Full time employees may be eligible for discretionary/performance‑based incentives, medical, dental and vision insurance plans, optional HRA/HSA, telemedicine, employee assistance and wellness programs, disability programs, basic life and AD&D, and a 401(k) plan with a company match, paid time off (PTO), 10 paid holidays each year, and paid parental leave. For full‑time employees, the initial PTO benefit starts at 20 days per year, adjusted commensurate with relevant experience, front loaded on the first of the year, initially prorated quarterly based on hire date. Commuter programs are also available.

Ability to travel periodically in remote areas and varied weather conditions.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

  • Alaska resident with strong familiarity with regional communities and issues
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, communications, economics, history, natural sciences, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing advocacy, education, or grassroots outreach, preferably in public affairs, government relations, or issue‑based organizing
  • Experience coordinating multi‑stakeholder initiatives or coalitions involving industry, community, and policy participants
  • Understanding of public policy, regulatory, or government affairs environments
  • Experience working with or exposure to rural Alaska communities and subsistence fish and wildlife issues
  • Comfort in diverse groups in various environments (community halls / docks / small venues)
  • Flexibility for planned evening/weekend events

Preferred Education & Experiences:

Exposure to leaders in Alaska’s seafood, resource development, tourism, or hospitality sectors preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and work effectively with subject matter experts
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder coordination and issue education
  • This is an on‑site position based at the Trident Support Center office in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, with the option to work remotely on Fridays. In‑office time takes place in a typical office environment: temperature controlled with adequate lighting and moderate noise. While remote, employees must provide appropriate home office space.
